New Modern Warfare 2 Weapons Revealed, Custom Killstreak Detailed

Modern Warfare 24/7 has confirmed details on at least four new or modified weapons appearing in Modern Warfare 2 from screenshots and videos picked apart on the Infinity Ward forums. ComputerAndVideogames has also reported details on the multiplayer mode’s custom killstreak.

The new weapons detailed so far include two submachine guns and two assault rifles. Of the four weapons, three are supposedly brand new (but look similar to guns from COD4) and one is a modified version of a gun from Call of Duty 4.

The newest and most unusual-looking gun revealed in Modern Warfare 2 is the “Tavor” TAR-21 – the latest Israeli-made assault rifle. The gun’s appearance in the game was confirmed in a single shot from multiplayer footage, but has not been confirmed for the campaign or co-op modes.

The only in-game detail confirmed for the gun was that it would have a 30-round magazine. Modern Warfare 24/7 accompanied the details on the weapons with footage of each gun from the show FutureWeapons on the Discovery Channel. Given how Infinity Ward doesn’t make strictly realistic military simulations however, it’s hard to say what the weapons will be like in Modern Warfare 2.

The other new assault rifle is the FN SCAR-H which is also only confirmed so far to be in multiplayer. The only in-game details confirmed for the gun are its magazine size and the fact that there will be a “SCAR-H Bling,” perhaps similar to COD4’s golden Desert Eagle.

The new sub machine gun is the H&K UMP .45, which has only been confirmed through screenshots from multiplayer footage and campaign cut scenes. No in-game information on the gun has yet been found. The one sub machine gun confirmed to be getting modifications in Modern Warfare 2 is the MP5 – which is now the MP5k. It has been confirmed to appear in both co-op and multiplayer.

Also today, ComputerAndVideogames reported details on the multiplayer mode’s new custom killstreak, which is supposed to give options to both newcomers and veteran players.

Instead of having set rewards come in order for increasing killstreaks, players in Modern Warfare 2 will be able to choose rewards from different lengths of killstreaks. Someone who saves up a 15-kill streak might be able to use the AC-130 gunship from Call of Duty 4, while a less experienced player may be able to use something smaller, but they may be able to use it more often.
