The recently confirmed new Xbox 360 wireless N adapter will be taking the price of the old one, which will receive a price drop. A more specific reasoning behind the new adapter has also been given.
Like the current one, the new adapter will cost $100, while the current adapter will see a slight price drop to $80.
The Xbox 360 is still the only hardware this generation, including handhelds, that does not have Wi-Fi built-in. Since Sony essentially leveled the price field on hardware with the $299 PS3 Slim, its Wi-Fi has been charted as one of the system’s biggest advantages.
It has also been noted that cheaper, third party Wi-Fi adapters along with the original Xbox adapter which can now be found as low as $40, are compatible with Xbox 360s.
The adapter is supposed to be able to stream 1080p video as part of Microsoft’s Zune Video Store coming to Xbox Live later this year. No word on a specific release date.
