New York Police Unions Want Saints Row 2 Pulled from Shelves

Looks like the police are at it again, the New York Police at that:

New York’s powerful police unions say that a violent new video game called “Saints Row 2” is an abomination. In the game, the player controls a gang member who can steal, do drugs and kill as many characters as possible, including police officers.

Union officials say the game dehumanizes police officers, trivializes violence and sets a terrible example for young people. The game’s maker says it’s meant for people 17 years and older.

On Tuesday, surrounded by police union members who support her bid for Manhattan District Attorney, candidate Leslie Crocker-Snyder and others spoke out against the violent game. — CBS 12 News

Funny that they always seem so negative towards video games. Did playing cops ‘n robbers as a youth not dehumanize police officers?

In any case, it’s funny they target that and not things like TV and movies. If I have any negative perceptions of police officers as sleazy, corrupt individuals, rest assured it most likely came from those areas of entertainment. Or maybe I just missed their burning of Chief Wiggum in effigy.
