Satoru Iwata has admitted to Newsweek that Nintendo’s first party titles are dominating Wii software sales but he says third-parties will begin to make a comeback next year.
“I believe that the job of first party software is to drive hardware,†said Iwata. “If you don’t have a quick impact and quick dissemination amongst the audience, you lose momentum.”
Nintendo’s president compared the Wii to the DS which after two years is starting to see a decline in first party software sales. “Next year, we’re going to see a larger number of third party software,†Iwata said.
So far, Nintendo has expanded its third-party software to include games from Rockstar as well as Guitar Hero 3. It maybe titles like these which expand third-party influence even further. “If you don’t have momentum, the third parties don’t want to jump on your platform. So that’s not a good situation to be in.”
