Nintendo DS Conquers Europe as Best Selling Platform Ever

Since its launch in the region on March 11th, 2005, the Nintendo DS has gone on to sell more than 40 million units across Europe, thus making it that region’s best-selling platform of all time. Between the console’s three current iterations there to date (DS, DS Lite, and DSi), it has manage to reach this landmark in under five years.

The Wii isn’t doing too shabby there, either; 20 million sold since its 2006 launch has made it Europe’s fastest-selling console of all time (of all time!) as well.

On the software front, Wii Sports Resort has sold five million in five months, while New Super Mario Bros. Wii is moving at an even faster rate, pushing 2.5 million copies since November. And Europe is apparently gaga over Wii Fit; between the original and Plus versions, nearly half of all Wii owners there have a copy at 9.6 million.
