Over the past few days, we here at DSA have seen many news posts about the DS being “Region Free”. Even though dozens of sites reported this piece of news, we were still not sure if it was indeed “official”. Thus, we called and even emailed Nintendo. In our call, the Nintendo representative commented:
“We have not received any word yet on this…it could be someone making this up and spreading it”.
Shortly after, we received a reply from Nintendo through email. It read:

Hello and thank you for contacting Nintendo,
The games for the previous hand held systems were region free. However, we have not heard if the games for the Nintendo DS will be also have this capability.
Although we are confident that the DS will be region free, we will not confirm anything unless Nintendo officially confirms it themselves.
