Yesterday saw Japan’s Nikkei reveal that Nintendo would be releasing a new DSi before the year’s end in Japan. The report stated that the new version of the console would feature larger, four-inch screens which the company hoped would help expand the platform’s range of uses, such as for digital book downloads, and to help appeal more to seniors and those with weaker eyesight.
Following this, Famitsu picked up on the story and brought it to Nintendo’s doorstep to find out more about the unit. And Nintendo’s reply was as amusing as it is interesting:
“We conducted no interviews. We believe it was an article based on conjecture.”
Naturally, no one believes that for even a second. Andriasang notes that past instances of Nikkei “conjecture” gave us the first word on Super Mario Galaxy 2, Wii Fit Plus, Xbox 360 price drops, a variety of non-game services for the 360 and Wii, as well as the first word on the original DSi itself in September last year.
So, we’ll keep you posted on when Nintendo starts talking.
