One BigMac With A Side Of Mario Kart

Nintendo of America is set to announce a partnership with Wi-Fi provider Wayport, in which hotspots will be made available at McDonald’s restaurants across the country. This new agreement will not alter the cost or procedure of the Nintendo Wi-Fi connection in the slightest.

“By enabling Nintendo DS customers to access Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection via our Wi-Fi World network and business model at McDonald’s, we are continuing to drive more customers to the restaurants we serve and increase the relevancy of Wi-Fi to a broader customer base,” says Dave Vucina, CEO of Wayport. “Nintendo is a pioneer in providing a new way for their customers to play the games they want to while away from home or the office, and McDonald’s is the perfect venue based on their ubiquity and accessibility.”

Nintendo is striving to provide their fans with a seamlessly integrated, free online experience, thus these hotspots will be entirely cost free for DS owners. The Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection will launch on November 14, when Mario Kart DS releases for the Nintendo DS.

According to the company, access to these “McHot-spots” will be easy, and intuitive for gamers of all ages. To access the Nintendo Wi-Fi connection at your local McDonalds, all that is required is to launch a given online enabled title in the appropriate game mode.

“This agreement with Wayport will bring countless people together to play games in a single, simultaneous wireless community,” says Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of sales and marketing. “Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection is simple to use. Beginning with free access at participating McDonald’s, we have removed one of the major barriers that have kept people from going online to play games.”

Further details regarding these hotspots will be revealed at Nintendo’s official Wi-Fi website, www.NintendoWiFi.com. Currently, it is still unknown as to how many McDonald’s locations will be equipped for the service or which particular restaurants will possess the necessary technology.
