As a part of their road to E3 special, SEGA of America has officially announced the production of Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz, an exclusive title for the Nintendo Revolution.
The game, currently in development by the company’s internal studios a slew of new, brain twisting puzzles to coincide with new party games that take full advantage of the unique control capabilities of the next-gen system.
“The Nintendo Revolution presents a totally unique avenue for our developers to explore the art of game design,” said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America, Inc. “Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz will present a mind-boggling array of gameplay innovations that will excite and challenge gamers while pushing the boundaries of imagination forward.”
With a style of control unique to the Nintendo Revolution, SEGA is touting a new, fresh gameplay experience new to the widely popular series as well as the industry in general.
The game’s single player levels are said to be developed with the system in mind, in a way to effectively and innovatively challenge the player’s skills. Players will control AiAi entirely with the free-hand controller of the Revolution, where they, for the first time in the history of the series, be given the opportunity to jump.
This is pulled off rather simply, as players merely flick the controller in an upward motion. The ability to jump in a game certainly doesn’t sound like much, but with this new concept, the developers have and will be able to incorporate countless new types of puzzles and challenges into the already classic and fun formula.
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz will also come equipped with several Party games traditionally associated with the series, but as you might expect, each of these games is newly designed to meet the capabilities of the system. With the game, users can participate in ring toss type games, and even in a “Wack a mole” type setting entirely with the free-hand Nintendo Revolution controller.
Unfortunately for gamers and fans of the series alike, screenshots and additional details were absent from today’s announcement. With E3 rapidly approaching, its only a matter of time before SEGA provides the game with a definitive release period along with screens and further gameplay details.
