Sony’s announcement of the Next Generation Portable (NGP) has gone over pretty well, but that doesn’t mean the recent wave of PS3 hackers are going to cut them a break. Well Sony’s busy trying to sue the pants off of George “Geohot” Hotz, another hacker is turning the tables on the company by issuing them an ultimatum.
Graf_Chokolo, apparently a known entity in the burgeoning world of PS3 hacking, had a number of his recent projects taken down from various sites when Sony took notice and issued several Digital Millennium Copyright Act notices.
Chokolo isn’t taking it sitting down, though. In response, he threatened to publish his IDA database – whatever that is – if Sony doesn’t leave him and his fellow hackers alone. This will apparently make it easier for other hackers, in turn, to reverse engineer software and accomplish other shady deeds.
Is there actually any real threat here? I honestly have no idea, but it doesn’t sound serious enough for Sony to actually stop going after hackers. It will be interesting to hear their response though – if they bother to respond at all.
