Last year, at the release of Wario Land: Shake It! for the Wii, Nintendo put an amazing ad on YouTube, one which had to be seen to be believed. As you can see above, Wario’s actions in the video shook YouTube to its very foundations, yet left all of the links and such active. It was a sight to see.
However, such pleasures on the internet are sadly fleeting, and with Nintendo’s newest ads for Punch-Out!!, the URL which once housed this amazing ad is no more, now home to the “experiencewii” YouTube channel.
There are still some traces of the ad left, thanks to video rips such as this one, but it’s just not the same.
We all have had our favorite video game ads we’ve been privy to over the years, and thanks to sites such as YouTube and GameTrailers, many of them have become immortalized, with still others we haven’t seen, be it due to a missed opportunity or simply living in another country, appearing all the time. But it seems that the ad Wario Land: Shake It! will only live on as a pale imitation at best, much like a rip of a commercial from a staticy, scratchy VHS tape from the 80’s.
And with that, I bid a fond farewell to one of Nintendo’s best ads ever. It was truly a sight to see.
…that is, unless someone had enough foresight to somehow manage to clone the page. You never really know, with some of the things people do nowadays.
