The above is a display used for Labor Day Weekend at a Safeway in Northern California. And it is, in a word, awesome. It even uses my favorite 8-bit Mario pixel art (Super Mario Bros. 2, in case you weren’t sure).

The only problem? I know I certainly wouldn’t want to take any of the cases comprising this masterpiece.

From the video author:

A video game tie in themed Pepsi Display in Northern California. I had been sitting on the idea for a while but never got the chance to use it. Finally for this upcoming labor day the local Safeway asked us at Pepsi to do a large display and usually we build a giant American flag but having already done that for the 4th of July the store wanted something different. So I was finally able to put my idea into motion and we got it done: 3 guys, 1000 twelve packs, and 4 hours later. I hope that everyone likes it and that I’m not stepping on anyones toes (i.e. Nintendo, please don’t be mad!) by doing so. Thanks for watching. Ryan

I wonder how long the pre-production planning for this took, or if that was part of the four hours.

I would think Nintendo might actually be thrilled by something like this; it looks like something they’d stick on their wall at Nintendo of America HQ in Redmond. And besides, they’ve had a pretty good relationship with Pepsi over the years.

And I can’t say it’s not fitting. I spent part of my weekend playing Mario and drinking… well, Coke, actually (except when we went to see G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra). Still, close enough… right?

One funny thing I noticed is the shape of the Pepsi cases. Here in Canada, we still have the old 3×4 packages, though our Coka-Cola comes in the more fridge-friendly 2×6 style they have here.
