New Super Mario Bros. Wii is a fantastic game, worth every single penny in its own right. To me, there is no question of this.
And a large part of that value comes from the game’s multiplayer, including the Coin Battles. However, when you win in those, you merely get the satisfaction of gloating and rubbing it in the faces of your rivals. But in Japan, they have a much better thing going on.
Behold the trophy to your right (click to enlarge). There, the winner of Nintendo’s Coin Battle Contest in Japan gets to experience the joy of beating their rivals over the head with this gold-plated plumber (metaphorically speaking, of course).
Only a select few get to bring that prize home with them. I just wish that we had an opportunity to fight for the glory of winning such a prize here, but alas, it is not to be.
Seriously, who needs a football trophy on the mantle when you can have this?
