Epic Game’s Mark Rein responded to a prevailing rumor of a downloadable Gears of War demo on Microsoft’s Xbox Live Marketplace service citing that his company has no intentions of making such a trial version available to consumers.
On the official forums for the game, Rein responded to an image on the British version of Xbox.com which appeared to indicate that a demo was forthcoming. However that is not the case, as Rein has said ” [I] Just saw the dog tag image with the “Microsoft points”. It just isn’t true. There is no demo coming out before the game ships and I have no idea if we’ll do one after the game ships or not. Right now there are no plans to do one as I said earlier in this thread. I have asked Microsoft to take that image down.”
Given that Gears of Wars is almost undoubtedly the most anticipated game to arrive for the Xbox 360 since the system launched almost a year ago, the news that a demo of the game will not be made available is certainly disheartening for the game’s faithful.
Regardless, Gears of War is shaping up nicely to be one of the contenders for Game of the Year as the game is officially complete and bug-free and is now in full production. We’ll have much more on Gears in the coming weeks.
