It has long been known that Sony’s release of Media Molecule’s LittleBigPlanet would be headed for brick-and-mortar retail (and one would naturally assume online stores like Amazon and GameStop). However, nothing has been said about downloading the title at all, save for the custom-made stages and things of the sort. But a recent Reuters article indicates that armchair game designers may not have to leave their armchairs at all to get the game:
Sony will release the game, both as a retail disc and as a digital download, through PlayStation Network on Oct 21. — Reuters
A simple mistake? Or might Sony be going the Burnout Paradise route? Given other stories in the mainstream press of late, it’s rather difficult to be sure.
We’ll see if we can get to the bottom of this; of course, without an “official announcement,” it’s hard to say what sort of answer we’re likely to hear.
Update:
Wow, that was good and quick. Brandon Cox from Sony was kind enough to inform us that no, LittleBigPlanet will not be sold through the PlayStation Network. The only way to get it when it comes out on October 21st is on Blu-ray disc.
