When Michael Jackson passed on earlier this year, it seemed to spark a short-term interest in his career within the video gaming community, as numerous sites recalled his alleged involvement with Sonic the Hedgehog 3, his cameo in Space Channel 5, and of course, the two Moonwalker video games.
But while people were reminiscing about Moonwalker, few expected that it would ever actually be released again. And yet, strangely enough, the opposite may very well be the case.
Nintendo Life has dug up a PEGI rating obtained by SEGA Europe for Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker for Virtual Console. They also note that “as of yet the service has still not seen any movie-based titles other than the Super Star Wars games. As you probably know, however, LucasArts owns the Star Wars license, so these aren’t exactly ‘licensed’ titles.”
What remains unknown is which version of the title would show up. The Master System title seems less likely, leaving it down to the arcade and the Genesis versions. Nintendo Life says the latter is the best known, making it the most likely candidate, and I’m inclined to agree, though it wouldn’t surprise me if the arcade version were to join it at some later point in time.
Naturally, as there has not yet been any official announcement, we’re labeling this as a rumor.
