Are you a big fan of a certain 1998 action-thriller based on a book by Michael Crichton and starring Dustin Hoffman and Samuel L. Jackson? Have you been waiting for the day when a game company will come and name something after your most precious film?
Well, that day might come, as Joystiq is reporting that “Sphere” may be the development codename for Sony’s as-of-yet unnamed motion controller. This comes from Sega’s Yasuhito Baba, who called the controller “Sphere” in an interview. This information was corroborated by Polyphony Digital’s Kazunori Yamauchi, who also called the device “Sphere” in an interview.
“Sphere” is likely merely a development codename, but would make sense given the device’s sphere-shaped end. We’ll have to wait and see if Sony does in fact use it as the final name.
