The latest Famitsu magazine is now out, and with it comes a list of game trademarks. I recognized a few, and one of them particularly stuck out — Super Mario Collection.
Known as Super Mario All-Stars outside of Japan, this 1993 game is a compilation of the first three Super Mario Bros. games, as well as Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels (known as Super Mario Bros. 2 in Japan). Another version was also released in 1994, this one also including Super Mario World.
So what does this mean exactly? Well, I for one would consider the possibility of either a Virtual Console or DS release. The former sounds much more probable, however, seeing as how the Wii already has those individual titles on the Virtual Console. It is also likely to be a DS release simply because the DSi lacks the ability to play Game Boy Advance titles, and as such cannot play the Super Mario Advance games. Again, this is only speculation and definitely not fact. This wouldn’t be the first time a trademark didn’t become a game.
