Teen Arrested For Threats

On Friday, the Sheriff’s Department in Harris County, Texas arrested a 16-year-old boy who made violent threats against Miami, Florida-based Attorney Jack Thompson. The threats included torturing and murdering Thompson, an outspoken critic of violent videogames — some of which this 16-year-old had played. Thompson believes that this recent incident “helps prove the harmful impact” of violent videogames.

The specifics of the torture with which Thompson was threatened is so grotesque that they were not made available on Friday. The torture was to end with the Thompson being shot dead. To catch the teen, Jack Thompson worked with private investigator Doug Hagmann of Erie, Pennsylvania. Hagmann’s expert assistance led to the arrest by the Harris County Sheriff’s Department.

In a news, release Jack Thompson noted the following:

Thompson has been targeted by the video game industry for this type of criminal harassment for months since his March and July appearances on CBS’s 60 Minutes and after he prepped Senator Hillary Clinton for her successful video game news conference. One video game site sent operatives to his neighborhood going door-to-door illegally with libelous flyers about Thompson. Video gamers have been “bookstorming” Thompson’s new Tyndale House book, Out of Harm’s Way, at Amazon.com with fake “reviews” that falsely claim he is a homosexual who threatens to “anally rape boys,” who is a “racist” (Thompson worked in the civil rights movement), etc.

Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc’s Rockstar Games has been knowingly orchestrating harassment of Thompson at its www.rockstargames.com Internet site. The giant Philadelphia law firm of Blank Rome, which is the official, registered lobbyist in the US House and Senate for Take-Two/Rockstar, has been actively involved in targeting Thompson for abuse with its unethical antics inside and outside of the courtroom in Fayette, Alabama, in a case in which a teen killed three police personnel after training on the Grand Theft Auto games. Blank Rome also represents Take-Two/Rockstar in that Alabama cop-killing case. Blank Rome is involved in DHS/FEMA contract scandals after Hurricane Katrina. Now Blank Rome can add a) facilitating video game industry-inspired killings of police officers and b) facilitating the targeting of Rockstar’s critics to its long list of lawyering “victories.” Blank Rome even went so far as to tell the Alabama Court that Thompson is “paranoid” and suggested he is “mentally ill.” Blank Rome, remarkably, is the single largest contributor among lobbyists and law firms to the “family values” Bush-Cheney Administration and to the Republican National Committee.

The news released ended with this: “‘Shoot the messenger’ is the video game industry’s strategy. This time, because of the arrest in Texas, it didn’t work. It backfired.” Thompson also put some blame for the harassment on the media, stating “This is the type of harassment that internet video game ‘news’ sites like Dennis McCauley’s [www.gamepolitics.com] generate.”

It is not yet known what sort of punishment this teen will recieve. The maximum sentence is one year in jail and a $4,000 fine. We’ll keep you updated.hey got a mod
