Rise of the Tomb Raider – Xbox One, Xbox 360 – November 10
Xbox owners have something big to dangle over their PlayStation rivals this month. Rise of the Tomb Raider builds upon 2013’s reboot in nearly every way, delivering the definitive Tomb Raider experience. The game doesn’t completely revolutionize the formula, but it didn’t need to. Rise of the Tomb Raider packs more of everything from tombs to explore, to challenges to complete, and more ways to outfit Lara into the ultimate Tomb Raider. The game is due to arrive on PS4 sometime next year, but until then Xbox fans can soak this one up for as long as they can. For more on Rise of the Tomb Raider, check out our review.
Bloodborne: The Old Hunters – PS4 – November 24
Bloodborne was the first truly great game to release this year and for the PS4 console in general. It is currently one of the contenders for Game of the Year, and for good reason. Sure, it may not be completely new and unique, but it didn’t need to be. Bloodborne refined the Souls formula more than revolutionized it, but it made it feel like a different game. The Old Hunters builds on the Bloodborne experience by adding new areas, enemies, weapons and summons. StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void – PC, Mac – November 9
StarCraft has been a staple in the RTS genre for a very long time. 1998 to be exact. It feels like Wings of Liberty only came out yesterday, and that we had more time to await the the rest of the series. But it’s been five years, and now StarCraft II is (mostly) complete. Sure, Blizzard will continue to support the game post-launch for a long time to come with updates and mini content packs. But the biggest parts of StarCraft II are done, and there’s a chance we may never see a StarCraft III, at least for a very long time. For StarCraft fans, the series has always been something akin to a fine wine, only getting better with age. Expect more of the same with StarCraft II. Fallout 4 – PC, Xbox One, PS4 – November 10
When Todd Howard showed the world what Fallout 4 was going to be about, we knew it was going to be a big deal, just not quite as literal as it ended up being. You can play hours upon hours of Fallout 4, and feel like you haven’t made a dent. This can seem intimidating, but it’s awesome to know just how much content and value you can get out of the game. If you haven’t gotten Fallout 4 yet, add it to your Christmas list and take full advantage of your time off from school or work. Fallout 4 is a meaty game that will be relevant via mods and content updates for years to come. For more on Fallout 4, check out our review.
November is always the most prominent month on the game release calendar, and this year was no different. Star Wars Battlefront, was a huge release, effortlessly capturing the look and feel of the brand, but questions about its balance and longevity continue to linger, so it did not make the list. However, a long-awaited post-apocalyptic journey, an epic conclusion to a beloved RTS, and a new Lara Croft adventure made this month the best of the year. Here are what we think are the best games of November 2015.
Mushihimesama – PC – November 5
Mushihimesama is an 11 year old Japanese-only title that got ported earlier this month to Steam with little to no fanfare, until the game’s popularity gradually grew among the Steam community. Mushihimesama is a classic arcade-style top-down bullet hell shooter created by Cave Interactive, a studio known for their prowess in the genre. The game is raking in positive reviews from over 300 Steam users and the specs are so light, just about any PC can run it with no problems.
