EA shows off the latest version of The Simpsons game at a press event to celebrate the 400th episode of the television show in LA.

Confirmed as multi-platform, The Simpsons will see all of the voice-actors from the show reprising their roles which will include around 8,000 lines of dialogue.

The game will feature 53 minutes of TV episode-quality cinematics but the story, which is still in beta, forms around the characters being sucked into a video game.

There will be many references to other EA titles and a ton of cameos from secondary characters of the show including Kang and Kodos (the space helmet wearing aliens).

The game was running at 30 fps and looked strikingly similar to the cartoon.
The Wii version will include a mini-game where Homer is in a eating contest and players must use the Wii remote as a spoon.

The level that was shown at the event was called “Around the World in 80 Bits” and featured Homer eating a bunch of ethnic foods (including the Insanity Chili Pepper from the “Vision Quest” episode) and growing into a huge, Katamari-esque, ball of lard.

Each level will feature a different set of characters, setting and story with a total of 16 “episodes”.

Player will be able to switch between two different members of the family (not including Maggie) or go split-screen in a co-op mode. Each family member has their own abilities which can be used to solve puzzles.

Character-specific powers include Bart turning into “Bartman” and being able to glide to remote platforms while Marge’s “Super-Nag” powers allow her to take control over crowds of Springfieldians (due to the nature of the event, Marge’s power may have been a joke).

Another part of the gameplay will include a collecting element which at the event showed off a needed 25 Duff bottle caps.

AMN will continue to keep you updated on the latest details.
