As we’ve already established, March is going to be a pretty busy month for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 gamers. Heck, PS4 alone sees the release of two blockbuster exclusives in Bloodborne and MLB 15 The Show. But let’s not look past this week’s arrivals. Headlining this week’s releases are:
Screamride – Xbox One – March 3, 2015
Designed as a spiritual successor to Rollercoaster Tycoon, Screamride features more than 50 levels and three gameplay modes: Engineer, ScreamRider, and Demolition Expert. In Engineer Mode, you build and customize your own roller coaster and thrill rides with props, ride pieces, and modular scenery. You’re also tasked with solving construction puzzles in order toc reate coasters, amusements, and environments from the ground-up. In Screamrider, you actually ride and take control of the coasters created. And finally, in Demolition Expert mode, as the name suggests, you’ll demolish environments and objects to meet various condition requirements.
Helldivers – PS4 (PS3, Vita) – March 3, 2015
Helldivers is a top-down, twin-stick shooter with a heavy emphasis on co-op, tactical gameplay. In it, you must work together to coordinate actions during chaotic moments; this also means avoiding friendly fire casualties. As for the plot, the game is set in a procedurally generated universe where you must fight three different enemy species to ensure the survival of fictional Super Earth. Look out for our full review on March 3rd. Side note, Helldivers is the first game to release as part of Sony’s Spring Fever 2015 sale. As such, it’ll have a launch week discount for PS Plus members.
OlliOlli 2: Welcome to Olliwood – PS4 (Vita) – March 3, 2015
Welcome to Olliwood is the side-scrolling skateboarder sequel to 2014’s acclaimed OlliOlli. In the game, you zoom through levels on a skateboard while attempting to pull of different tricks. New in the sequel are split and hidden routes, four-player local multiplayer, and new combos. It’ll also be cross-buy and cross-save compatible meaning you can swap between the two platforms with ease.
Resident Evil: Revelations 2 – Episode 2 – PS4 (March 3, 2015), Xbox One (March 4, 2015)
Your adventures as Claire Redfield, Moira, and Barry Burton continue as Capcom’s episodic adventure, Resident Evil: Revelations 2, continues with the release of Episode 2. If you’ve already played the first episode, you’ll know if left off with a revelation (sorry!) and a cliffhanger. We’re looking forward to seeing it continue this week.
Shiftlings – PS4, Xbox One – March 3, 2015
Developed by Rock Pocket Games, Shiftlings is a “quirky puzzle platformer about a pair of space custodians who travel the cosmos completing complex challenges.” Linked together by a single air hose which allows them to pass gas back and forth and expand in size, the two characters must work together to solve puzzles. Shiftlings offers 50 levels filled with challenging puzzles spread over five unique worlds.
White Night – PS4, Xbox One – March 3, 2015
White Night is an “old-school survival horror” that draws from the rich themes of noir-era storytelling. The game blends “third-person action, exploration, and puzzle-solving” with “mature tension, challenge, and survival horror.” Set in the 1930s, players find themselves in a shadowy mansion after a near-fatal car crash. What starts off as a search for aid quickly becomes a desperate quest to discover the secrets behind the manor’s tortured past.
Zombie Army Trilogy – PS4, Xbox One – March 6, 2015
Zombie Army Trilogy is a tactical shooter that includes a remastered version of the original Nazi Zombie Army and its sequel, both of which were released in 2013 as standalone downloadable content for Sniper Elite V2. It also includes a previously unreleased third installment in the series, a cooperative mode that will support eight playable characters, four of which are new female characters.
It may not be the blockbusters we're all eagerly awaiting to arrive, but there are probably a few quality titles here that could help pass the time. Do you plan on getting any of this week's new releases?
