CHAPTER 2 – ROACHE'S PATH
NOTE: before you start this chapter it'll be great if you know everything about levelling up your character so read the section on that above in this walkthrough (look into the table of contents), also you may want to learn everything about alchemy and all the other stuff, if you did not figure out anything then this is the best time to get it over with.
You will do this if you chose Roache over Iorveth in the last mission of chapter 1.
Prelude to the War: Kaedwen
You now assume the skin of King Henselt of Kaedwen walking towards a meet with the local prince. Go along the path and you will come to the meet soon enough, speak to the nobles and don't bother giving them any money since it will not matter. Speak to Saskia and you can be nice to her and get into a duel or provoke her and the situation goes into an all out fight. Whatever you do, after bringing down enough of her health something really really bad happens and Geralt finally enters the scene.
Some kind of curse has been ordained on the lands here, but for now, let's take care of the people here. Start killing all the Soldier's Wraiths that appear. After you kill ten of these, a couple of Draugir's appear. They are demons and advanced versions of the Wraiths. Let the other's distract them while you hit them from behind. Make sure you have QUEN on while going after them. They can be a bit strenuous to kill but they do go down. After they disappear, Dethmold finishes casting his ward spell and a large sphere of magic engulfs the area around the people here. Dethmold then leads everyone to the exit but it's a really really long way and the path is infested with the soldier Wraiths so whenever you see one get too close, kill it. You'll be in the war for a long time so brace yourself. Thrice the ward of Dethmold will be held by Wraiths and when this happens, you will see the Wraiths doing it and also the sphere turns from the Bright Orange it is to a dark blue colour. Kill the Wraiths (they teleport after each blow you land). Anyway, the pattern repeats itself thrice after which you exit the fog. As you go on be on the lookout for the body of Prince Stennis –
He has a great sword so let's take it from him. You'll see yourself in the Kaedweni camp and the King asks Zyvik to show you around the camp, now you can hex Zyvik to make him lead you directly to the king but I strongly suggest you take the whole tour since you'll learn of all the locations which will offer use quests later on. Remember well, the inn (canteen) and the fighting arena and also the elf who is bound to the pole, you would also have got the quest Butcher of Cidaris during your tour. While speaking to the Nilfgaardian Ambassador Silard and while speaking to the King, try to be truthful about everything. After you speak to the King, go see Sile and Dethmold and you get a quest updated after you speak terms with Dethmold.
If you beat Bargee in chapter one at Arm Wrestling, he asks you see Adam Pangratt if you get a chance. Adam Pangratt is sitting by a fire nearby directly opposite to the King's tent on the other side (the exit to the King's camp is to the right). Talk to him and you get this quest. All the targets are marked on the map so just track this quest and beat all of them and come back to see Pangratt, beat him and he mentions a guy called Numa – we meet Numa in the last chapter of the game.
Go to the canteen (left after you exit the King's camp all the way at the end to the right). You should see two soldiers playing dice to the left of the canteen. Beat them and they point you towards Zyvik. Go to Zyvik and beat him and he says that next is the Madame of the Brothel nearby. After you beat the Madame, she points you to the Quartermaster's Assistant back at the camp. Beat that guy and you can choose from an assortment of armour diagrams.
This is the first quest to gather info on the plot on the King.
The first time you go near the canteen you should see two people who seem to be father and son quarreling about something. Go into the canteen and you'll find the father. Talk to him and just tell him that you'll help his son. Then go out and talk to the arrogant boy. Let's just help him out. The Butcher is in the tent next to the dwarven craftsmith. You can piss him off royally and he agrees to the double duel. Speak to the boy again and tell him you are ready and you'll come into the arena immediately. The Butcher is a pig and so has a lot of health and also deals fair damage. You should use Traps against him or just bombs or a communion of both. If you upgraded you QUEN by now just slap it on and start smashing him. After you take him down go to his second, this guy has a shield so it'll take longer to kill him. After you are done though, exit the arena the Father awaits you. He gives you a lead on the square coins – mentions Whistling Wendy in the Brothel and also, asks you to look out for a certain guy who has some magical armour on. After this quest, go up on the wood ramp surrounding the arena and Proximo will speak to you.
After you speak to Proximo, if you want to get this done then just meditate till noon and wait for Proximo to take his place on top of the ring. Speak to him and agree to the fights. You'll have a total of four fights and all of them are fairly worthy. The last fight will be with Ves, get her health down and she asks you to meet her in the camp.
Go to the camp of the Blue Stripes which is outside the Kaedweni Camp and speak to Ves. Agree to drink with her and meet her in the tent. If you want to get on her good side, tell her she's beautiful and do not mention that she is manly (she hates that and kicks you out). You can then make love to Ves if you choose to or just tell her that you can't do it.
NOTE: this includes A Score to Settle
At the right end of their camp are some Stripes engaging in a fist fight, go speak to the guy nearby and start fighting, Roache himself takes one at you in the third match. After you get all of them some solder from the Kaedweni camp shows himself, you can fight him or ask him to shove off, he comes back to fight you in the last chapter of the game too – no biggie.
You would have noticed some drunks around the camp calling for Odrin, now at first I thought it was a dog they were looking for but if you speak to one of them, it turns out that they lost one of their friends and not lost as in die. Go to the west gate of the camp –
Exit here and go to the right and you'll catch a glimpse of Odrin sleeping at the entrance of the cave. Leave him be for now and enter the cave, you can explore the cave but be wary of the Rotfiends that rest within. After you kill a Rotfiend, they blow up so roll away from them after depleting their health. The cave has nothing much in it but you'll fight a Bullvore and a Golem, both of which are challenging on higher difficulty levels. If you fought the Troll in the previous chapter then they fight similar. Just keep moving out of the way and out on QUEN and get them. Anyway, the golem is at this place –
Jump across the gap here to get to the Golem then kill it and it drops a great set of armour, the armour of Ban Ard. Equip this armour as it's going to be the best you will have for a while from now.
Go back to Odrin and speak to him and pick him up, take him to the camp and say what you will to the Guards. Inside the camp, you need to take Odrin to three of his friends who have been howling for him this entire time. They are shown as blue spots on the mini-map, just walk Odrin to them and after you get all of them, walk them to the Canteen. You can speak to them now and just do not ask straight questions about the plot on the king. Be devious with your questions and they'll spill their guts out. This is the second quest to gather information on the plot of the king.
Speak to Zyvik to get this quest, he's looking for a couple of his soldiers who went AWOL. Move out of the Kaedweni Camp and go past Roache's Encampment all the way till you touch the mountain wall on the other end and then go right and you should see a path, if you look on the main map, you'll be here –
Walk in and soon you will come to a half burnt pillar in the ground and also the two soldiers standing by the pillar. Talk to them and agree to take them back. Now, look at the altar and interact with it. Choose each and every option available to you and by the end you should have a square coin, a note and a rusty nail. Speak again to the soldiers and lead them back to the camp. Some drowners attack you while going towards the camp so kill them and move ahead. Go meet Zyvik and tell him that you brought his boys back to finish the quest.
Go to the west end of the camp and the first time you are here, you will see a soldier being bullied by others. Track this quest and speak to the soldier, tell him you can get rid of the ghost/wraith for a price. Then you have to go to the cabin in the hills, but before you go to the cabin you can speak to the nurse at the Brothel. Go past Roache's Encampment straight till you reach the mountain wall, you'll see a narrow path between the wall, if you look into your main map you should be here –
Go in and keep an eye towards your right side, you should see another path so go in and you will come to the house on the mountain. You should see the graves and the house itself marked on the map, go to the graves and see all of them. Then to the left of the house you should see some barrels, cast AARD on the barrels and they reveal a trap door. Go down here and you'll come to a room with three altars, you have to light the candles on the three altars and the sequence is this
A secret door opens up in the wall here, go thru and pick up the note here, this is tied to the next quest. Go back outside and walk onto the beach past the house. If you paid attention to what the soldier you spoke to earlier was saying, then you will know that he saw the ghost an hour before midnight. Now, meditate here till 22 Hrs and as you get up you should see the Wraith. Speak to it and it alleges that the Soldier killed her when she was human. Go back to the soldier and tell him that you need his help to kill the Wraith and take him back to the beach and wait till 22 hrs again (meditate if you need to). You will meet the soldier at the narrow path leading to the house so meditate there and then go to the beach. You can choose the soldier and kill the wraith or you can kill the wraith themselves. Make your choice, I will not spoil the end for you but I advise you to see what happens when you choose either options, so re-load the game and do it again.
You get this after you take the note you got from the cellar of the house in the little sisters quest to Dethmold and show it to him. Do not sell it to him since this becomes a great quest later in the game.
NOTE: this quest also includes Courage Symbolized
After you do all the previous quests, speak to Dehtmold and tell him you know of the plotters. He asks you to get one alive (but it's not possible so don't worry). In all the previous quests you should have learnt that you need to go to the brother and tell the Madame that you have square coins and then choose Whistling Wendy from the girls. After that go inside the tent and tell Wendy that her smile splits the heavens gates or some crap and she leads you to a trap door. Go in and kill everyone, not matter what you say, you'll still end up in a fight. Now, kill everyone and pick up Seltkirk's armour from the dead guy. Look around here and get out and go back to Dethmold. Speak to Dandelion and Dethmold and now you have the Symbol of Courage.
NOTE: After killing Rotfiends make sure you pick up the tongues from their remains since they are needed for a quest in the last chapter of the game and you will not come across any rotfiend later, so store up at-least a couple of Rotfiend Tongues – they are commonly used as alchemic ingredients so before you make anything in alchemy, make sure you are not using all the tongues for the alchemic formula – you need one for "The Encrypted Book" quest in chapter 3.
You can get this if you see the notice board to the right of the canteen in the Kaedweni Camp. Rotfiends are terrible creatures which feed on dead and rotting corpses. Since this particular location had a war a few years ago, this is a popular feeding ground for Rotfiends. To get rid of their breed, all corpses which they are feeding on need to be completely burnt (you should have read the book on Rotfiends by now).
Go out of the camp and track the quest. It seems that you need to burn nine corpses; you'll find three corpses close to each other at each location. Now, I'll just give the pics of locations of the first three corpses (they are a little bit dispersed than the remaining bodies) –
–
–
–
You can get to the first body by going around behind the tower to the right of the Brothel. Kill the fiends and burn the three corpses here and then go to the next location –
All three bodies are close by around what seems to be some broken wagon carts. Look around, the first two are close by and the third is a few paces up near the stream of water to the left. The last set of corpses are here –
Now, you can get here by going along the spiky wall which is surrounding the Kaedweni camp. After you burn all the corpses go and meet Proximo in the camp to get your reward.
NOTE: this quest includes The Path to Vision and Death and Hatred Symbolized
Do this quest only after you complete Butcher of Cidaris, In Cevicia Veritas and Lost Lambs.
After you do all the above quests, speak to Zyvik (he's keeps roaming in the camp) about the nails you found earlier in Lost Lambs and Sabrina's Circle; talk to him about everything. Now you are supposed to meet either The Visionary or the seller of the fake amulets. We'd better go to the Visionary. His house is marked on the map and you can get there by going along the line of water outside the Kaedweni camp all the way up the hill here –
(The Path to Vision)
When you are here, you'll meet some guys who are after your head, well, they cannot have it. Kill them and continue along the path till you come to the soldiers who are fighting some Endregas. Kill all of the Endregas before they kill any of the soldiers and the soldiers speak to you. Tell them that you can take the money to the Visionary as you are already going towards his hut. Now, continue on your way to the Visionary. A lot of Harpies will attack you as you get near his house, run into the circle of candles in front of his house to be safe or keep killing the Harpies. Once inside, tell him about the soldiers and give him the money, he says that there's only half of it here. Now, you can pay him the rest of the money or better yet, join his cult. Tell him you'll join and he gives you a potion and marks a place on your map. Go to the place marked and then meditate there till midnight and drink the potion and interact with the altar to perform the ritual. You'll see some bizarre images (keep your eyes open and look properly at the mountains and how the things around you look like). You'll end up on top of a cliff above the altar. Take the Visionary's note that his here, the other parts of his notes are in his hut so go back to him and tell him clearly all that you saw without lying.
Now, after all that clowning around, talk to him and ask everything about Sabrina's execution and the Ritual and everything else. He mentions that the spear head is with the seller of fake artefacts in the Kaedweni Camps inn. We need that since it's Hatred Symbolized. Go back to the camp and speak to the innkeep inside and ask him everything. It does not matter if you sell the nail but I just kept it anyway. You can hex the innkeep so that he gives out free info. He mentions that the speak head is with someone we already know but not with him.
(Hatred Symbolized)
Now that person is on the other side of the spectral mist. If you tried going into the mist at an point earlier in the game, you'll simply be killed. Go to Dethmold and tell him that you need to cross the fog to get the artifact and while you are here ask the magic ash which he has and speak to him about everything else. The map should now show the location of the Spectral mist. Go out of the camp and straight into the mist. When you are inside the mist, it's best if you run like hell, killing the soldier wraiths will not fetch you any exp and they never end so just run straight to here –
Run into the clouded blue mist at the end and you emerge out of the mist. Go straight and you'll meet some elves, after you joust with them, go past them and to the gates of Vergen where you meet a couple of Dwarfs whom Geralt is supposed to know (well at-least one of the Dwarf knows him). Talk to the Dwarf about everything (choose the first line of dialogue last so that you do not miss out on any story). Then they agree to make take you inside Vergen and Zoltan agrees to get you the sword somehow but you need to take a different route into Vergen and a new location is marked on the map (two actually). Go backwards out of the gate and thru the burned village which the elves were guarding towards the mist you came from but instead of going right to the mist, turn left and go straight, you'll see a narrow path between two large rocks which leads to the marked location, go into the door straight ahead and since it's extremely dark inside, drink a cat potion which should clear out your vision. The tunnels you are in are like a large maze and you could wander in here for more time than need be. Also, some of the gates here are closed and remain closed since they are part of the other story line (if you chose Iorveth's Path instead of Roache's path). There's nothing to explore inside the tunnels here but you can look around if you want to, here's a pic showing the tunnels, I marked the path you need to take to reach Zoltan –
When you reach Zoltan, there's another person here, speak to them and you get what you came for here, go back outside using the same path and to the gates of Vergen to meek Skalen who is supposed to have the Spearhead.
After you meet up with Skalen, talk to him and ask him about the Spearhead, he wants you to beat him at dice poker and only then will he give you the spearhead. So, beat him once and he gives sit to you, he also has some other interesting artefacts so I suggest you play him till he doesn't want to play with you anymore so you can get all of his stuff. This gives us the Yahon's Spearhead needed for the Ritual to lift the Curse from Henselt – this is the very spear that was used to kill Sabrina a few years ago.
(Death Symbolized)
Earlier, the Dwarf you met marked to location of the Dun Banner's standard (which is the symbol of Death). To reach that location, go up the stone stairs to the left of Skalen and thru the slums all the way to the wooden door, go thru it and you will have come to a forest. You need to cross the bed of water here and the path is just beside the large rock to the right, go across and keep going, you need to keep an eye to your left as the entrance you are looking for is below ground level and the path comes to the left of the forest path. Inside the place you will fight several wraiths, but look at the pic here –
The marked location is the place where you meet the ghost holding the Dun Banner, this place has stone walls which can be broken down using the AARD symbols, sometimes you can be surprised at what's behind the walls, even the Ghost is behind a stone wall so break it down to get to him. You can either fight him or trick him, to trick him, answer his questions like this –
Tell him you served in the Dun Banner, then him he's wrong and mention Coerhoon. Then something to do with "dead" and Vandergrift and Seltkirk. The last answer is that a priest took you to safety.
To trick the ghost just tell him that you served in the Dun Banner and then tell him he's wrong, the next answer is Coerhoon and then dead. Then comes Vandergrift and Seltkirk and finally tell him a priest led you out of the fire. He gives you the banner and now make your way back thru the mist and to the Kaedweni Camp, to get thru the mist go here –
As you come out of the mist Roache is waiting for you, run behind him to the Nilfgaardian camp and after learning a few interesting things (you should go into the tent to the right and take a letter), go to Henselt and speak to him. At the execution site just follow Henselt to the Vantage point and send him down to make the markings. The correct symbol is in Dethmold's Grimoire (which he gave you earlier). So you have to lead the kings around the stuff that's on the ground so he can make the proper drawing, the correct order of things is as follows –
Petrified bread
Black candles
Goat skull
Scorched tree
Raven corpse
Sour milk in the stone bowl
Pixie circle
After that's done, go to the wheel and set it on fire. The whole place goes awry and Sabrina's ghost appears along with Wraiths all over the place. You need to kill a lot of Wraiths before Henselt can stab Sabrina. After that's done go meet the elf who is tied to the pole just outside of the king's camp and treat him nicely and he gives you all the information, you should go meet Henselt in his tent at midnight. Phew, that was a long quest.
NOTE: This quest also contains Faith Symbolized
When you are speaking to the King he gives you the Symbol of Courage, and after you speak to the king some guys show up. It's Serrit and Auckes – names of who you must have heard in the previous chapter as the two other Witchers helping Letho in killing the Kings. These guys are very deadly on higher difficulties so try to keep your distance and use bombs and traps at them. After you get their health low enough (you only need to fight one guy) Sile de Tanserville shows up and kills the guy – why did she show up all of a sudden at this time?
Sile doesn't want to dabble in Necromancy and Dethmold is as happy as a ghost on halloween. Go speak to him in the tent and for the ritual to be performed you need to drink a Gadwall potion. If you don't have the recipe for it, you can buy one from the person just outside of this tent (shown as a shopkeeper on the map). Make and drink a Gadwall and speak to Dethmold to commence the Ritual. Inside the Ritual just follow your partner all around the place and after you enter the hideout don't step on even one trap or you'll do this quest all over again. After that the next sequence involves sneaking in the Kaedweni camp, wait till the soldiers finish talking in front of you and move only after they move away, then walk straight and don't let any of them see you, if you walk long enough you are now in a fight with Geralt again, but this part is unimportant, it's just enough if you spoke to Letho and not a problem if you fail the sneaking inside the camp. Now, when in the camp you will hear the three soldiers mention a loot which is stacked in the cave, we already visited this cave in the quest In Cervicia Veritas – it's the armour of Ban Ard so don't split your head over it.
Tell Dethmold what you saw and run out of them camp towards their hideout, you need to go into the same path which you used for the Little Sisters Quest but instead of turning right, go straight and when you are near the fog go right and into the hideout, go all the way into the hideout and this time you fight a couple of Gargoyles and a Golem in the end. The Gargoyles burst with molten lava when they die so just roll away from them after you make the kill. After you kill the Golem, speak to Serrit and take everything here and head back to the camp.
I'll just give you the lowdown on the story that has taken place till now if you missed any part of it or did not understand why you were running around all this time. I'll also give an account of how the various symbols of the war appeared and why.
Glevisseg is a real w(b)itch. She was the chief advisor of King Henselt a few years ago (all Kings have either a Scorcerer or a Scorcress as an advisor). Henselt marched into the Pontar Valley (a very rich piece of land) to take over it and a war began. On one side was the courageous general Seltkirk and on the other was the great Vandergrift General of the Kaedweni forces. Both of them were unmatched and there was always a debate about the strength of one over the other, they had fought once in a friendly duel and Vandergrift had to concede defeat because his sword broke during the fight, to make sure that never happened again Vandergrift made a wizard craft a sword of deathly power and the wizard imbued the sword with all the Hatred of war, the sword itself was named "Hatred" and so it became the Symbol of Hatred. During the battle the first division of the Kaedweni forces (Helselt's army) the great Dun Banner were all slaughtered and purposefully too because they were supposed to be the greatest fighting force of the Kaedweni army. So to kill all of them and destroy their flag (The Dun Banner) would put a dark cloud over the morale of all the other soldiers but even as the bearer of the banner was being cut down, his grasp over it was not weakening and ultimately he never let go of it and was buried later on along with the banner. Since the Dun Banner were all victims of death, the Banner itself became Death Symbolized. Even though his side was facing certain defeat Seltkirk kept pushing forward and because of his great courage, the armour he was wearing became Courage Symbolized. It was at this time that Sabrina called forth a meeting of all the great Sorceresses and announced her will to shower fiery meteors from the skies onto the battlefield for which she needed the power of all these famed Sorceresses. They warn Glevisseg but she is adamant and starts to cast the spell. By this time, Seltkirk had reached Vandergrift and their clash began. After a tenuous fight Vandergrift cut down Selkirk and killed him. Now, Sabrina had finished casting the spell and because of it's scale the meteors burned down every last one of the enemy and also the Kaedweni soldiers alike. There was no escape from the fiery hell but a priest of Kaedwen who possessed a magical amulet cried that the soldiers have faith in him as he led them outside the meteor shower, the amulet he had was a medallion and became the very symbol of Faith the soldiers had in him to lead them like a shepard leading his flock away from wolves to safety. Henselt asked Sabrina why she did a treacherous thing like that and Sabrina simply said that it was to win the war for Kaedwen, but Henselt having the pride of a King despised the idea and told Sabrina that he would never have had something like that done because even greater than winning is war is having pride and Sabrina's shower of meteors killed all soldiers, friends and foes alike and that action was not one of pride but of shame and fear so he orders her to be burnt at the stake. Sabrina Glevisseg was tied to a pole and burnt but as she was burning, she used her last breath to cast a curse so dreadful that the battle would be re-lived by the spirits of the dead soldiers forever in time.
There are four parts to the battle –
NOTE: You will be changing characters soon and they will not have Geralt's Powers so you may be dazed by their limited fighting skills – one way to overcome the battles would be to use parry all the time – Hold Block and let the opponents hit your block – they will lose composure for a second, now hit them with a power attack and immediately go back to blocking – run around for a bit if you are completely surrounded but remember this.
(Death Symbolized)
At the beginning of we are a soldier who is fighting against the Dun Banner's wielder, go into battle and kill the Kaedweni soldiers and also the bearer of the Banner (it's not going ot be easy since we got used to Geralt's powers and this guys can't even dodge attacks, just run around and use the defend button and attack between the enemies attacks), that takes care of the Symbol of Death. Now, we are another soldier who is to report the death of the Banner and the on-come of the enemy forces to General Vandergrift. Run to the wooden cover walls, there's a shower of arrows constantly coming in and you should run from cover to cover immediately as one shower ends and by the time you run to the next, another begins. Keep going and you'll reach the General eventually.
(Courage Symbolized)
You are Seltkirk now and again you can neither roll and dodge nor do you have powers, just block and hit. Move ahead and defeat the soldiers ahead and when you reach the end the barrier is blown, this shows how Seltkirk pushed onwards even though most of his soldiers who were with him died and this finished the Courage Symbolized part.
(Hatred Symbolized)
This is where the tide of the battle really changed, this is when Vandergrift killed Seltkirk. But to end this ghastly war Geralt needs to reverse the outcome here so instead of letting Selkirk fight abd get killed Gerald asks the ghost of Seltkirk to go away and let the Witcher do his work so that the tortured souls of his soldiers can finally rest from this eternal battle. You now need to kill a Draugr but before you kill him a very large and extremely evil looking – talking and walking thing approaches and it's none other than the General himself. The fight with Vandergrift is very tricky, sometimes he does one thing, and at other times he does something else, but here's a video of the fight between Geralt and Vandergrift on hard difficulty –
Vandergrift has a layer of armour over him so to get him we first need to destroy the armour (it's shown below his health bar). The best way to deal with Vandergrift is to put on Quen and go to him and start hitting him, if you did not upgrade QUEN then I dearly hope you have bombs or traps since you must have upgraded those at-least. Just keep attacking him, and sometimes he turns into a tornado, when this happes just run around to avoid it. If you cannot use your powers wait for the vigor the regenerate, during your wait, just run around in circles and dodge Vandergrift when he charges at you. Sometimes he calls down Trebuchets or Archers, when he calls down archers just run around till the shower of arrows stops, and if it's trebuchets then you will see a red glow from the ground showing the spot where the trebuchets will hit, just run away from this spot. During the shower of Arrows or Tebuchets do not go near Vandergrift, he cannot be harmed now but can do a lot of damage. Keep repeating this till you kill him. Even his sword "Hatred" could not save him and this ends the symbol of hatred.
(Faith Symbolized)
The last thing you have to do is the complete the war by doing Faith Symbolized, you are the Priest who led the soldiers out of battle, just run towards the marked location and you will end the war.
NOTE: this quest also has the second part of conspiracy theory and Mystic River
After speaking to Dandelion, run to the hut where the Little Sisters quest took place and then back to Roache's Encampment. Kill the soldiers here and run into the Kaedweni camp. Make sure you have a lot of explosives before you enter the camp because you will be fighting a large group of soldiers. Make sure you kill everyone and then run to the canteen and watch what happened to all the Blue Stripes.
It's time to go over to Vergen, there are two markers but choose the right path as you can do the Mystic River quest too. Go there (this is the same path you took to the hideout of the Kingslayer) but instead to going right into the hideout, go straight, the fog is lifted now, kill the Harpies and after a while you come to a she-troll. You can be nice to the troll here and not kill her.
(Mystic River)
To the left of the troll is a wrecked boat, go in and take everything from the chest – there's an armour enhancement you obtain here – do not use it now as it's used to make the best armour in the game later on, this finished the Mystic River quest in this part of the game and continues in Loc Muinne later.
Go ahead from the she-troll, keep killing the Harpies on your way and you come to the male troll. Tell him that the she-troll would be fine if she did not run into the Kaedwenis. He assists you in battle, so run behind him and you come to soldiers, just go past them and into the tunnel you used earlier in the game to get into Vergen to meet Zoltan. Go inside and go out the other way, but this place is filled with mercs and in the final chamber you fight Adam Pangratt and his group along with Dethmold. This fight can be very challenging since all of the mercs and Pangratt and Dethmold have great health and attacks, if you hit Dethmold, he disappear and sometimes goes behind a barrier which you cannot go thru, just kill the mercs then. After you kill everyone and beat down Deathmold he teleports away. Go thru the tunnel and you come to Zoltan. Go left thru the door and go all the way to the top of this tower. Go thru the last door and you can go to save Iorveth or to Sile. Iorveth is to the left, go along that path if you want to save him then go back on Sile's Path, there's a Golem guarding Sile's path so you need to kill it to go thru. Always have QUEN on and you actually can push it into a corner and do power hits and it dies before it can recover. Go into Sile's place and fight Henselt here. After the fight you can choose to let Roache kill Henselt or to persuade him not to kill Henselt. Make your choice and after you do that, the war ends and we now set sail for Loc Muinne to the summit of Mages and Kings which is supposed to decided everything.
NOTE: You are going to need a lot of money – at-least about 3000 Orens – you can make more during the quests here but I hope you have a lot of money. Do not buy anything or sell anything unless mentioned in the walkthrough since you may sell or use up useful things.
NOTE: You will face a lot of Harpies soon, make sure you have at-least four Harpy feathers which are needed for The Encrypted Manuscript quest.
NOTE: this quest also contains Poker Face: Loc Muinne, Bring it On: Loc Muinne and A Score to Settle
You find yourself on a mountain path just outside Loc Muinne, the mountain path is a regular feeding ground for Harpies so draw your silver sword and start hacking them one by one as you make you way down. After you go all the way down Roache asks you to find another way into Loc Muinne because the soldiers guarding the gate may not welcome Geralt. So, from the bottom of the path turn around and walk into the narrow passage way to the left and keep an eye on your right, you should see another path leading into a cave but don't go in yet, keep going straight and two Arachus attack you from the front and back, quickly roll behind one of them so that you can take them on from a single direction and kill them, you should be here –
Anyway go all the way and look to the right where you should see human skeletons on the ground (Feeding spot of the Arachus) search in the skeletons and you find a great silver sword for now which should be a major improvement over the one you already have. Now go back and into the cave and make you way thru the cave, it's a straight path so there should not be any confusion, get out of the cave and you come to another mountain path filled with more Harpies. Keep going all the way and you will see a low wall at the end (the path goes right from here but there's nothing there), here's a pic –
climb the wall and drop down and now you are in Loc Muinne. I'll give you a picture showing the path you can take to Roache and also I will explain how to make your way thru –
Loc Muinne was a once great city build by the Ancient Elves where mages used to find sanctum but there was a great war here that nearly destroyed the whole city and now it is just a pile of rubble, although the glory of the ancient Elves can still be seen in their constructions and the scale of the city and it's layout and secrets. After you jump over the wall, keep going and after a while you come to some Gargoyles, kill them and you may see a stair case leading into the ground but ignore it for now, we'll return here later. Just go right from here and exit the next two doors and you will come to three large gates (one of which you exited from – the left most gate). The middle gate leads into the Temerian Camp and the right gate also leads to the path just beside the camp, go in either of the gates and to the right side of the camp. You should see some stairs to the right, go up these and you will fight some Nilfgaaridans who are after the bounty on your head. Kill them and go into the room to the right where you should see four people playing dice poker, here where you should be on the map –
(Poker Face: Loc Muinne) (A Score to Settle)
Defeat the Elven couple first and then the Sorceror and his Apprentice, the Apprenctice points you to a certain "Incredible Lockheart" who is supposed to be in the centre of town. Make your way to the centre of town and as you go there the soldier from last chapter with whom you had a fist fight in Roache's Encampment is back for revenge, just defeat him and that ends A Score to Settle. Make your way to the centre of the town (look at the directions map above if you are having any trouble at all). The Incredible Lockheart is a merchant also so he is marked on the map as a merchant, just go to him and defeat him (it actually take a few tries but nothing can be said for luck), you can take his money or some special items, that's all the poker games in the game.
(Bring it On: Loc Muinne)
If you defeated Adam Pangratt in the previous chapter, he asks you to keep an eye out for Numa. You can find Numa right next to the merchant here –
Wrestle with him first and well – it's a tough one, but speak to the merchant next to him and ask him to show the mushrooms – you will find a very interesting potion with the merchant – buy one and drink it and then ask Numa to wrestle you – you'll find that this is the easiest Arm Wrestling contest in the entire game.
Make your way to Roache now and speak to him, he leads you to the King of Redania. Follow Roache all the way and go to the King. When speaking with the king – speak the truth and do not try to persuade him or charm or hex him because it will not work. Just do the normal dialogues and speak the truth, tell him you'll help him and in turn he will take care of Sile (who as we found was the main mastermind behind the killings of all the kings till now). Go out of the camp and Roache asks you to help him get back Anais from Dethmold, you also have a choice to go save Triss instead of Anais – both places are marked on the map and you can choose only one – make your choice – both of them are different quests. But before you do them, let's complete the most interesting quests in the entire game.
NOTE: You can meet Aryan La Valette (if you saved him from the Dungeon in Chapter One) at this location –
You get this quest if you showed the note you got in the Little Sisters quest to Dethmold. If you did not show it to him and also did not sell it go to the Bras of Ban Ard, here's the location –
Show him the note and ask him if he could make anything out of it. He mentions a password but don't worry I'll write it here for you. Now, go back to where you had your match with the Mighty Numa and just look to the left here and you will see a door –
on the map you should be here –
Go into the door and you will come into the Sewers of Loc Muinne. Go down the stairs and you'll come to another door as you pass thru this door a cutscene shows a creature to the left here. Go to it and speak, when you are shown the dialogues on the screen choose in the following order –
Zi
Uddu-ya
Ia Ia
Gat
Exa
Nibbit
Kanpa
Gat
Uddu-Zi
A portal opens up, go thru it. You'll now come into a room with fire places around it in the following order –
F4 D F5
F3 F6
F2 F7
F1
The F1, F2…and so on are the fire places and D is the door which is locked, at the beginning you will see that F1, F4, and F5 are burning and the rest are not. Light the fire the this order – 6,5,1,4,6 – and the door will open. Note that there more than a single order in which you can light the fire to open the door. Before you go thru the door, look into your inventory and see if you have the "Vran armour Enhancement". You should have picked it up during the Mystic River quest of Chapter 2 and I asked you not to use it on anything. If you already used the enhancement and don't have it them make a choice now, in the next room you will find the "Operator", save the game now – very important. You need to think now if you want the best armour in the game or if you want to reset all your level up points so that you can redistribute them according to your wish all over again. If you already have the Vran armour Enhancement you can have the best armour in the game and also you can ask the Operator to redistribute your level points. Anyway, go into the room and you speak to him. If you want to redistribute the points then choose the dialogue options which go something like "how does it work exactly" and then ask him to go ahead with it. This will reset all your level up points and you can re-do them according to your wish – extremely useful at this point in the game. If you do not have the Vran armour Enhancement and instead want the best armour in the game then tell him that you are no chosen one and you enter a fight. Beware that this is the most difficult fight in the entire game and you will have trouble even if you decrease the difficulty of the game down to easy, sit down before going to him and take any potions you want to. The operator is not human even though he looks like one, use your silver sword against him because a normal sword will do no good. If you have a lot of bombs with you notably Grapeshots – you would typically use at-least 20 of the bombs or you can also throw knives. As soon as the fight begins, keep running around the room because you do not want to get hit by his flames since they deal a lot of damage, start hitting him with the daggers or the bombs and after a few hits he puts on Quen himself and you can do no harm, just run around till his QUEN wears off and resume hitting him with ranges attacks. Here's a video I made of the fight –
After some time, he will summon Gargoyles and this is when you will have a hell of a time. You see, Gargoyles were created by mages to help them and all of the mages who created gargoyles (this happened hundreds of years before the current time) are dead and all the gargoyles you faced till now were weaker because their masters died but the gargoyles you are about to fight here are super charged since the Operator still lives. They can kill you in two hits and you will not even know when they hit you so as soon as you see the Operator go into his QUEN, put on your QUEN because a couple of Gargoyles may come at you. As soon as they appear, do not give them any time, start power hitting them and kill them as quickly as possible before they kill you, you are to try and avoid the Operator's flames all this while. After killing both Gargoyles start running around again so that the Operator does not hit you. If your health recharges soon enough or if you took a potion then keep running and do not attack the Operator with anything till your health comes back and then resume throwing projectiles at him. You will have to kill a lot of Gargoyles too and this fight will last for a long time although it is advised to go in and kill him with your sword as soon as his health drops low enough. You may have some trouble here so be very careful and you can give up anytime you want but just keep trying. If you manage to kill him then he drops Vran armour Enhancement and also Dragon Scales – both extremely rare and one of a kind components (actually two of a kind). The Vran armour enhancement is used to make the best armour in the game and the dragon scales are used to make the best silver sword in the game (which you can really use), not only that you will also get the best normal weapon (used on humans) in the game – the Operator's Staff. Go thru the portal and back into the sewers.
NOTE: You will fight Bullvores in this quest, take their brains after you kill them because we need them for another quest.
After you come out into the sewers after the above quest – From a Bygone Era, go straight across and you'll come here –
You should face a couple of Bullvores, kill them and take their brains because there are needed for a quest (The Encrypted Book) we are about to do soon. Go to the end and search everything, you'll find the armour Of Ysgith and the diagram of armour of Ys (second best armour) and also the Diagram for Vran armour (best in the game). If you want to get someone to craft the Vran armour the only guy who can do it is the Bras of Ban Ard. Go to him but the armour is extremely costly to make – 2000 orens, I had to sell a lot of my stuff to get the needed money but just make sure you are not selling important stuff like Blood of Nekker Warrior, Nechrophage Blood, Bullvore Brains, Queen Endrega Pheromones, Rotfiend Tongue, Harpy Egg, Yellow Meteorite stone, Studded Leather and never sell any crafting diagram, don't sell oil or hardened leather too, and diamond dust – you will need all of these for later and you will kick yourself if you sell them now. So make the money and buy the armour and wear it – it's worth every oren. To make the armour you need a lot of Studded Leather, Vran armour Enhancement (which I hope you have – you get one from Mystic River in chapter 2 and another from Bygone Era), armour of Ysgith – which you should have picked up along with the diagram for the Vran armour in the sewers. If you do not have enough Studded Leather then you can buy the crafting Diagram of Studded Leather from Falas – a craftsmith who is not shown on the map but you can find him here –
Buy the diagram if you don't already have it, you'll still need Hardened Leather and oil – both of which you can buy from Felicia Cori – another shopkeeper who is not shown on the map but you'll find her here –
Make someone craft enough studded leather and go back to the Bras of Ban Ard (he can craft it himself) and get yourself the Vran armour, you can buy enhancements for your armour from the various sellers in Loc Muinne just choose your favourites. While you are here you can also buy the Diagram for Zerrikanterment – second best silver sword in the game (note: If you have the ingredients mentioned in "Encrypted Manuscript" quest below then do not buy the sword as you can get a better one for free). You'll need Dragon Scales and three Yellow Meteorite stones to make it. If you killed the Operator in Bygone Era then you should have the Dragon Scales but if not, you can still acquire some by going to Phillipa Eilheart's house which is located here –
It's the door just to the right of the narrow lane which leads to the next part of Loc Muinne (the Amphitheater). Go in here and search around for the Scales. You may also find a note here and if you go to the roof you will see a glowing chest but you cannot do anything about this since it belongs on the other story line – Iorveth's Path. If you do not have enough yellow meteorite stones then you can buy the crafting diagram from Falas who is a craftsmith not shown on the map here –
If you do not have the components to make the Yellow Meteorite stone then buy them him Falas or any of the other people selling things in Loca Muinne, also try Felicia Cori who stands around here –
Go to the Bras of Ban Ard and craft the stones and also the Sword and you have the second best sword in the game (you will soon find another sword but this is better since you will get and extra 4% bonus damage dealt if you fight large monsters and you are going to fight some very soon), without any hesitation also buy runes (I don't remember the name) from any of the craftsman or shopkeepers here which give you an extra 7% damage boost – buy three runes and apply them onto your sword and you have an unbeatable combo of the nearly best sword and the best armour.
NOTE: This quest also includes "The Encrypted Manuscript"
NOTE: This is the most friggin annoying and mind wrecking and vague quest in the entire game, I had to spend hours trying to figure out all the poop involved in this quest and it was not easy – the fights are very easy but the puzzles involved will drain you of all the energy you have so I'm making it extremely easy for you here.
You can get the Gargoyle Contract from the notice board to the right of the Inn's entrace (look into your main map to see where the inn is). Pick up the contract and then you are supposed to get info on Gargoyles, go to the Bras of Ban Ard –
Ask him what he knows about Gargoyles and then Elven Ruins and also buy the four volumes of Elven Ruins from him and also the book on Gargoyles. If he does not have the book on Gargoyles then go to Felicia Cori –
Buy the book from her and read it, if even she does not have the book and just buy it from The Incredible Lockheart. After you read the book go to the Temerian Camp and to the area beside it here –
This is the location of the first runic room. Gargoyles will attack you as soon as you come here, kill them and go down the stairs and into the room, you'll get to fight a Golem here, he's difficult on hard and insane, you better back off and throw bombs at him from the stairs or use QUEN and start power hitting it. After you kill it, look at the four glowing symbols around the room and read the manuscript, an example is this –
You will come across different Manuscripts and each will have the number I highlighted on top of them, this will let you know what script you are reading, so after looking at the runes, read the four volumes of elven runes books you bought from the Bras. Yes, it's vague and the symbols can be difficult to discern. But I'm here for you, you will come across only these four symbols thruout the game so here they are with their names –
THE ANIMAL
–
ART
–
SKY
–
TIME
–
Now, according to the manuscript you find, you will need to activate the runes in a particular order, the notes of the manuscript indicate the order of things or occurrences which are related to one of the four runes. The orders are as follows –
6 – sky, animal, time, art
5 – art, sky, animal, time
3 – animal, time, art, sky
1 – animal, sky, art, time
2 – animal, art, time, sky
4 – sky, art, animal, time
So, activate the runes in the order of the manuscript which is in the room and then the chest becomes unwarded and you can take the things in it. If you activate the runes in the wrong order then you'll get zapped or burnt or poisoned or something else – put on QUEN to avoid the damage. You should find the Diagram for Elder Blood Gauntlets in this room – best in the game but will not make a lot of difference.
The second runic room is here –
You crossed this room while coming into Locc Muinne for the first time, go back there, kill the Gargoyles and go into the room. Read the manuscript here and activate the runes accordingly. You should find an Encrypted Manual and the diagram for Elder Blood Boots.
The last room is here –
You need to go by the narrow path to the right of the inn and towards the Amphitheater and go all the way across and into the rubble area to get here, kill the beasts and go in, read the manuscript and activate the runes. You will find Addan Deith – the third best silver sword in the game after Zerrikanterment (both have very minute differences so if you could not have the Zerrikanterment then don't worry). If you spoke the Bras of Ban Ard earlier in the game and asked him about the Wild Hunt, he mentions a sword beneath Loc Muinne which has the essence of the hunt in it, well this is the sword and also, Geralt will speak out something like a story of the Wild Hunt after you pick up the sword. And then go back to the Bras of Ban Ard and take your reward from him.
You should have picked this up in the second runic room during The Gargoyle Contract. Speak to the Bras of Ban Ard and show him the script and he asks for four ingredient to decipher it, the ingredients are as follows –
Blood of Nekker Warrior (Nechrophage Blood obtainable during Nekker Contract and various other quests during Chapter 1)
Queen Endrega's Pheromones (Obtainable only during Endrega Contract in Chapter 1)
Harpy Egg (or) Rotfiend Tongue (Eggs unobtainable as they are part of the other story line – Iorveth's Path, Rotfiend tongue obtainable during Chapter 2 in Rotfiend Contract and rarely during other times)
Brain of a Bullvore (obtainable during Chapter 2 in In Cervicia Veritas while exploring the cave and also in Chapter 3 during Mystic River – you'll face a couple of Bullvore as you go to the chest in the sewers.
If you followed my walkthrough then I mentioned during each of the above quests to keep the necessary ingredients aside saying you will need them later, if you don't have even one of these they cannot be obtained now. But if you have all the ingredients, then go back to the Bras of Ban Ard and talk to him about the Encrypted Manuscript again. He reveals that the components required are for the greatest sword ever to be known to any human. If you have the components – he can make the sword for free of cost – believe me, it is a really great sword – oh and I asked you to pick up four Harpy feathers earlier – hope you have those but if you don't then you should be encountering Harpies each time you go from the central market area to the place where you played poker earlier – near the Temerian camp.
So, if you want to get Triss back then go to the marker north of the map where you'll see the Ambassador of Nilfgaard. Speak to him and tell him you're there for Triss. Geralt then pulls a small stunt and then the Ambassador is held captive. Go in and keep walking him to where the soldiers are; outside in the camp. Finally, the captain takes care of the old coot (I've been waiting for him to die for a long time now), after dying the Ambassador drops a letter – if you picked up the first letter in the Nilfgaard camp in the Kaedweni Camp then this is the second part.
Look around for the ladder that leads to the next place, climb the ladder and kill the soldiers here, go across all the way and drop down into the pit. Then you get to see the empire in all it's glory – it's not that glorious if you ask me. You'll keep fighting batches of soldiers and they are all really good on harder difficulties so watch your tail and use QUEN properly. After killing them down here, climb the low wall and more Nilfgaardians and the Captain himself to kill. After everyone dies, pick up the two keys from the Captain and go into the open tent here and take the third part of the letter from the Ambassador to the Emperor. To the left of this area is a stair care going down into the cellar, go there, open the gate and speak to Triss. Whatever you tell her you'll then need to get need to take her out of the camp and then go to the council meet.
If you want to choose this path then you ought to let go of Triss and this is the logical choice because a whole kingdom depends on the wellbeing of Anais. To the left of the Incredible Lockheart is a slope leading into the sewers and Roache is waiting for you here, speak to him and hex the soldier near the gate to get thru. Now, if you are a bomber then you better make some now because you are about to be in one big fight. Move forward and kill all the soldier and once you are on top, you'll see Dethmold's Apprentice commanding the soldiers to get Geralt. Keep killing the soldier and move to the central area and you be in an even bigger fight with the soldiers and also, there are two circles of power past the door where you come to two stair cases to the left and right, you should use them and move ahead. Go in all the way and the Apprentice himself shows up.
Kill the soldiers before you get to him and then when his QUEN is down, keep slashing him. After he falls, the protective fire that was blocking the door comes down. Go in and if you had Roache kill Henselt in the previous chapter then his body is here and a short cutscene shows as you approach it. Go into the room to the left and Roache takes care of things himself. Pick up all the stuff here and in the cabinet to the left of Dethmold's body – you ought to get a decent sword here too which should complete the Vran collection. Go out to Anais and talk to her – you can either tell Roache to give Anais over to the King of Redania or just take her away and if you do decide to take her away the Knights of Redania come in and a fight starts, kill them get out of this place and head on to the Summit.
It all comes down to this summit, the whole game was a prelude to what will happen now.
Just head to the Amphitheater and go inside. Now according to the various choices you made during the course of the game, different scenarios happen –
The first noticeable difference is that Sile De Tanserville will be persecuted by the King of Redania one way or the other – if you saved Triss then she alleges her of Regicide. And if you saved Anais then the Ambassador shows up with Letho who speaks against her, both ways – she's screwed.
Henselt is at the meeting if you let him go in Chapter 2.
If you freed Anais instead if Triss and handed her over to Radovid's men then Radovid declares her to be his future wife (something that Aryan La Valette chose himself) and that Temeria will be under his rule from henceforth.
If you freed Anais and killed Radovid's men earlier, then Temeria is declared independent again by the Temerian emissary and that the land will not be split by the barons.
Whatever happens, The Kings of the Flaming Rose come in and try to take Sile into custody but a Dragon swoops down and makes them into Kings of the Flaming butts and takes Sile to safety.
Run ahead on the only path you see and climb the low wall to get into the tower, I made a full video on the events and the last fight here playing on hard –
Dragon: Sasenthessis
The stairs here keep collapsing so you ought to put on QUEN and keep running up at all times, if you stop even for a second then you fall down. The Dragon keeps sticking it's head in frequently, just wait for the flames to get down and then run along. After you get to the top, you finally have Sile in the corner but she's escaping, you can interact with the megascope and pull out the diamond or just watch the happenings and she bursts like nothing I ever saw before. If you let her live then she gives you some info in Yennefer's whereabouts.
The Dragon still shows up thru the wall here, go to one corner and put on QUEN, stay away from the dragon at all times since it keeps slashing at you or bites you. When it's breathing fire though, go near it and start slashing, move back again and keep repeating this until the Dragon flies up. Climb the two ledges you're on and the fight continues on the top of the tower.
If the Dragon is in the air and not moving then it's gonna breath fire, it's best if you stay directly opposite to it all times right on the edge of the tower and the flames won't reach you and you should also be able to see what it's doing. If it's in the sky, it sometimes swoops down at Geralt and if you don't have QUEN on then you're a dead Witcher. Have QUEN on at all times and roll away when you see it come down.
If it's on the tower then it can either bite or slash at Geralt, maintain your distance and it moves around the tower to get close to you, as it moves, you can go in and slash at it once and roll back to avoid being hit. Keep repeating this thru the entire fight if it goes down by the tower then it moves around the tower to get close to Geralth, you should still be able to see a part of it's wing but try to stay on the opposite end since it suddenly shows and tries to bit you. Also, when it's down, it can bring up it's tail and whip Geralt, if you are on the other corner of where the Dragon is then you can avoid being hit by rolling away. Again, QUEN is the most important power here. Keep doing it and it's health will fall down and then if you are playing on hard you enter a quick time event with the dragon and it falls into a tree.
Your last choice is to slay it or leave it be, make your choice and walk away.
Now, everything will be explained.
If you saved Triss then she's with you and explains what happened when you were fighting the Dragon. Walk ahead and you'll see the Roache is now being hunted and is in possession of Anais but since there's a price on his head, some soldiers want to take it, fight them off and then go ahead to Letho who's waiting in the Temerian Camp.
If you saved Anais then Roache tells you what happened and you meet Felicia Cori who's gone mad in the room where you played poker. Walk out and to the Temerian Camp.
When you reach the camp you'll meet Letho and if you saved Anais then he saved Triss and she comes back to you. Ask Letho the questions which are shown and you'll know what happened all this while. You can finally ask him to go far away or fight him.
CHAPTER 2 – IORVETH'S PATH
NOTE: Even though you may choose Roache's path, the game does more favour to Iroveth's Path since significant plot details are covered up or vaguely explained in Roache's Path, so if anyone was ever wondering what the right choice is (even though there is not such things), you can say it's Iorveth'a Path – owing solely to the treatment and extent of revelation of the plot.
The game takes you to the middle of negotiations between Prince Stennis – Son of Demavend, the previous ruler of Aedirn who was the first to be assassinated by Letho and the King of Kaedwen – Henselt; who wants to take over the Pontar Valley – A part of Upper Aedirn. Walk along the path till you reach the meet and talk to the King; no matter what you say, you'll get into an all out fight with the King and his forces and war is proclaimed. We then get back to Geralt who just comes into Vergen along with Dandelion and Zoltan.
Some kind of curse has been ordained on the lands here but for now, let's take care of the people here. Start killing all the Soldier's Wraiths that appear. After you kill ten of these a couple of Draugir's appear. They are demons and advanced versions of the Wraiths. Let the other's distract them while you hit them from behind. Make sure you have QUEN on while going after them. They can be a bit strenuous to kill but they do go down. After they disappear a wonderful Owl comes in with her ward and a large sphere of magic engulfs the area around the people here. Phillipa then leads us to the exit but it's a really really long way and the path is infested will the soldier Wraiths and Draugirs so whenever you see one get too close, kill it. You'll be in the war for a long time so brace yourself. Thrice the ward of Phillipa will be held by Wraiths and when this happens, you will see the Wraiths doing it and also the sphere turns from the Bright Orange it is to a dark blue colour and a Draugir may appear. Kill the Wraiths (they teleport after each blow you land, don't even bother about the Draugirs). Anyway, the pattern repeats itself thrice after which you exit the fog.
Well, now that we have our orders from Saskia the Dragonslayer, follow Skalen and he takes you to your room in the inn. Speak to Skalen after you reach the room and then ask him to a match of dice poker. Beat him twice and then ask him for Arm-Wrestling and this starts the Bring It On: Vergen quest which we can continue at another time. The location of the meet is shown on the map and we cannot do much till the first couple of quests so just head on to the meet and watch the proceedings (you may have difficulty moving around Vergen since it seems like a large Labirynth but you should do it yourself since you'll be moving around a lot). After all the drama, head back to the inn (there's an Elf standing outside, beside the door who wants to speak to you – talk to him and agree to get a new quest) and go to your dwarven friends sitting in the corner.
NOTE: this quest also includes "Hey! Work's On, In The Mines"
NOTE: You can obtain a very important ingredient – Rotfiend's Tongue which is needed to do "Encrypted Manuscript" quest in the next chapter so make sure you check every Rotfiend you kill because the Tongues are extremely rare to find even though you'll find a lot of Rotfiends.
We are doing this quest to get a herb called Immortelle which is one of the ingredients to cure the Virgin of Aedirn. Just follow the dwarves to the mine after speaking to them and they lead you to the mine itself. Talk to the Mayor here and he gives you an additional quest which involve Rotfiends (they look like nekkers but explode when they die – so keep your distance after killing them). You're going to need a few Cat Potions so make sure you have some before entering the mine. I'll give you a map with everything pointed on it so you won't have any trouble traversing the mine and searching it –
1 – First Key, Balin's First Map & First Journal, First Rotfiend Tunnel
2 – Diagram fror Red Meteorite Silver Sword
3 – Second Key, Balin's Second Map and Second Journal, Second Rotfiend Tunnel
4 – Balin's Third Map and Third Journal
5 – Balin's Last Journal and Key to Store House
6 – Dwarven Immortale and Third Rotfiend Tunnel
7 – Store House
As you can see, all important places are marked and the whole place is infested with Rotfiends, the Immortales themselves are guarded by a Bullvore and a few Rotfiends. Collect all of Balin's Maps and Journals and go in the order pointed by the map above because some places are locked and to get there you'll need a key which is found at some other place. Pick up all the Immortales as you can use them for your own potions too. When you see 1 in the map above, go there first and so on. After you finish the quest, you need to go to the Mayor to get your reward for "Hey! Work's On, In The Mines" and you can visit Phillipa later because she has no use for the Immortelle yet since you have only one ingredient of the cure.
NOTE: This quest also include "A Score To Settle"
Head into the inn and talk to the people fighting, beat three of them and a Noble brat shows up, knock him down and he vows revenge, this is continued in the next chapter.
Talk to Skalen Burdon for an Arm Wrestling match and you start this quest. You need to beat two other pals of Zoltan first and then are in the Inn itself. Talk to them and beat them and then get back to Skalen. This is the most difficult Arm Wrestling match in the entire game so you may need a few tries.
Ask the Mayor when you meet him or the Innkeeper and the quest starts. All people who play poker are pointed on the map so go to them and beat them, the last guy can give you something special so take the yellow one.
NOTE: You can do the Death Symbolized and the first part of Hunting Magic on your way but I wrote those quests separately below this one so if you don't like to waste time then read those too below….
NOTE: When you go out of Vergen's main gates, look to the left and eventually you will see a path, go along this path and if you decided to save the elven woman earlier instead of chasing Loredo in the last mission of the first chapter then you will see one of the Elven woman here. Talk to her and accept her generosity and you make love to her. Talk to her again and she gives you a key. This key opens the door to the right her stand here and that door leads you to a place which you will pass thru a few times in this chapter so this is a shortcut.
Now this is a great quest….
You get this from Ele'yas – an Elf who is always standing to the right of the entrance to the Inn. Speak to him and you get this quest. You have two markers on the map, to know the significance of this quest first go to the burned village which is the marker outside Vergen, you can get there by going thru the main gate and straight on the path. Go to the Burned Village and Geralt says "Sulphur…"
NOTE: Sulphur has a very pungent smell and is usually in the form of crystalline yellow powder. Geralt notices Sulpfur here and immediately concludes that a Demon is nearby. It's common knowledge that Demons leaves traces of Sulpfur on whatever they touch or where-ever they have been… So we can expect a very powerful Demon which has a mind of it's own – unlike the Draugirs we fought in the mist.
Now, go to the grave yard marked on the map, you can go there by climbing the stairs which are to the left as you enter the second Main Gates which come after the market (the inn is nearby). Go up the stairs and around a low wall and keep going towards the marker and you'll come to a small tunnel which leads to a forest, the house to the right of the Tunnel is the home of Iorveth – remember this for later. Go thru the tunnel and you come to a small pond with some Scoi'atel. They want the bounty on your head, kill them and cross the pond – the path is to the left of the large rock in the middle of the pond. Go across till you get to the place with the marker – it's to the left of the main path and is lower than ground level. Go there you will see a lot of weak walls which collapse if you ast AARD on them. Each room here has Wraiths so watch out for them. Anyway, go to this room –
And break the wall and you will find a lot of dead bodies which have been wrapped. You can get close and unwrap them, just look for the dead body which has a fresh white wrapping, it's in this room. uncover it and use all the options – don't miss anything and then head back to the inn and speak to Dandelion.
After you persuade Dandelion to go along with the plan, meet him at the burned village at night. Now you take control of Dandelion and have to sing a poem to get the Demon out, choose 2,1,2 – the dialogue may randomly change so just read the book you got in the graveyard and you need to sing the third stanza from this book. Anyway, the Demon calls, you can go back to Geralt or go in to meet the Demon – it won't matter. Either way, Geralt will come inside and meet the Demon too. You can choose to help the Demon or fight it right here, I won't tell you which choice is correct. But if you want to help it then go back to the inn and speak to Ele'yas and tell him that you will talk to Iorveth about this and then go to Iorveth's house which I mentioned earlier and speak to him – show him the piece of metal which you found in the body. Go back to the Demon and see what happens. (I'll not give any spoilers out)
You ought to have spoke to Phillipa about the things she needs. Speak to Mayor Cecil Burton about the symbol of Death and he points you to the crypt which is marked on the map. It's the same place as the Flickering Hearts above so if you don't know how to get there read above… Cecil Burton's house is this –
Go to the graves (read previous mission) and remember that each room has Wraiths in it, you need to go to this room here –
Break down the wall here with the AARD symbol and go and speak to the Ghost. Now, you are not supposed to know any of the answers to his question since those come from the other storyline (Roache's Path). So, just fight with the ghost and kill it and take the Dun Banner and the sword that's here. If you really do not want to fight it then read the Quest Details in Roache's Path to know the answers.
