Top 5 shooters to look forward to in 2012

#2 – Boderlands 2:

Borderlands 2 is a unique shooter in its own way. Building upon the gameplay elements that made its predecessor such a smash hit, the sequel – like the original – is predominately a first-person shooter role-playing game, attached with its own unique style that differentiates the IP from the overpopulated shooter market.

Developer Gearbox Software certainly knows how to craft quality shooters, as was proved with its predecessor, and we can’t wait to see more of Borderlands 2 this year building up to its launch.

#1 – Halo 4:

The brand itself is a good enough reason to purchase the installments within the franchise. Halo’s development duties may be with 343 Industries now following Bungie’s departure from the series for a multi-platform deal with Activision, but if the success and quality each Halo title has delivered is anything to go by, we’re sure Halo 4 will bring another Master Chief phenomenon.

Everything 343 Industries has shown off thus far has been a hit with fans, including the changes and new additions they’re incorporating. Every gameplay video, image and artwork we see of the shooter, the wait for the blockbuster becomes even more unbearable.

2012 aims to deliver another memorable year in gaming with the amount of titles gamers will be exposed to being simply massive. With well over a hundred titles, the shooter genre is once again expanded.

Now GameZone takes a look at the top 5 shooters to look forward to this year. Are these the best of the best? According to us, hell yeah they are! Did your favorite shooter make the cut?

#5 Medal of Honor: Warfighter:

The Medal of Honor series, one of the longest-running IPs in the shooter genre, experienced a reboot back in 2010. It paid off for EA and developer Danger Close with the shooter selling over five million units. Naturally, a sequel came into fruition in the form of Medal of Honor: Warfighter.

Powered by the DICE’s brilliant Frostbite 2 engine, which showcased the qualities of Battlefield 3, the sequel is undoubtedly due to deliver commendable gameplay, as well as achieving the same graphical fidelity Battlefield 3 delivered. We’ll see if the title has what it takes to commercially challenge Call of Duty come October 23rd.

#4 – Far Cry 3:

The original Far Cry blew was a game to remember with its tropical island setting paired vibrant visuals and, indeed, extreme violence. With Far Cry 3, Ubisoft is aiming to bring back the elements which made the original such a quality title.

Players will take the role as lead protagonist Jason Brody who manages to find himself situated in an isolated island that’s littered with deadly enemies. Losing his girlfriend on his journey, he has to fight in order to stay alive in order to find her. Standing in his way are maniacs such as Vaas, a Mohawk-carrying who’s best at killing lives in a lethal fashion.

#3 – Call of Duty: Black Ops 2:

Say what you want about Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, but developer Treyarch has clearly signalled its intentions to implement fresh ideas into the sequel.

Two connected storylines are included in the shooter, with one set in the 1970s through till the 1980s and the other in 2025. The futuristic campaign, in particular, seems to be the most intriguing and we can’t wait to see how the changes made in the single-player complement the hopefully worthwhile changes incorporated into the multiplayer component.
