Top Gun Gets a Launch Trailer

The trepidation and hesitation starts immediately with this one.  Top Gun is set to release for the PSN on August 17th.  That’s next week, for those without handy desk calendars.  Goodness, gracious, etc., etc.

Fears a quelled up once the trailer above is underway and viewers realize they’ve spent more than 30 seconds watching edited footage from the Top Gun film.  The first consideration, of course, is that this was done to overcome the look and feel of the upcoming Top Gun title.  The game supposedly sports a graphical presence that sits somewhere below understated.

Matthew Green and Lucas DeWoody of Kombo were on hand at this year’s E3 and they experience the game for themselves.  The results of said experience brought about opinions that stood more positively than that of the opening bits of this article.

Top Gun Looks Muddy

So we reached out to Matthew Green and asked him to give us the good word where Top Gun’s graphics were concerned.

“They’re what I call a target-rich environment.”
     — Matthew Green

Warning bells went off and we took to the internet.  Matthew Green, it turns out, is a good source for quoting flicks from the 80s.  Don’t even get him started on Ghostbusters.

Maverick: This is what I call a target-rich environment.
Goose: You live your life between your legs, Mav.
Maverick: Goose, even you could get laid in a place like this.
Goose: Hell, I’d be happy to just find a girl that would talk dirty to me.

Green did actually expand on the look of Top Gun by saying that the models of the planes look fantastic, while the environments sit below on a lower level.  He did assure us, however, that the game looks solid in motion.

Fans looking to relive the 8-bit glory days may see this new Top Gun as a rekindling of the NES original.  That game was a blast.  Unfortunately, the only way this new Top Gun could even hop to stack up against its predecessor would be to make landing the most obnoxious gaming feat known to this generation.

As one YouTube user so eloquently puts it, “properbly easier to land a real fucking jet!”  Yes.  It probably is.
