Topspin’s senior producer says the Top Spin 3 will require practice to master and unlike Wii Tennis, is a real tennis game.
“We are taking into account the direction of the move and how fast you’re doing it. My six-year-old son just wants to move. He doesn’t care if what he’s doing is specifically represented on screen. But we [hardcore gamers] want it to recognize the move, so it’s not so simple,” Jean-Yves Patay told CVG. “It’s a real tennis game.”
The 2008 title is said to feature a gameplay style that awards points for not only scoring in the regular tennis fashion but for special achievements as well. These achievements could be given for greatest accuracy or using large gestures while playing the game.
These features will be described in more detail in the future.
“Wii Sports Tennis is a wonderful game but in Topspin you will have to move your character and do different swings,” Patay said. “You can move normally and that’ll be fine – you will just perform regular swings. But if you want to perfect your technique you will need to practice. So I like to say it’s a finished game on Wii.”
