Top 25 Games to Play Before Summer Is Over (#20 – #16)

Yesterday, GameZone revealed the first five titles of the Top 25 Games to Play Before Summer is Over Summer.

Previously Listed:
25) The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
24) Gears of War 2
23) The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
22) Battlefield: Bad Company 2
21) Demon’s Souls

Now we continue our list, revealing five more games you should play before the summer is over.

20) Resident Evil 5

So RE: Mercenaries came out on the 3DS and did little to impress veterans of the multiplayer mode. Guess what? Given that most people haven’t purchased Nintendo’s new handheld yet anyway, you can still play the old Mercenaries with a friend. RE5’s version is probably your best bet, but we’re not ruling out the previous generations, either.

There’s another reason to wise up on your zombie-killing 101: Dead Island, a first-person zombie-a-thon, launches this September from developer Techland. It’s set on a resort island to boot. Who said summer had to end?

We nail some headshots in our preview of Dead Island.

19) Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee

Just Add Water announced that they’re working on multiple (as in more than one) new Oddworld games in conjunction with past developers Oddworld Inhabitants. That’s a good excuse to dust off your old systems or log on to the PlayStation Network to play the first game, Abe’s Oddysee. Free your fellow Mudokons and lead them safely out of the meat factory, where they’re forced to work as slaves and are later processed into food. Mmmm. Picnic, anyone?

18) Silent Hill

A re-mastered HD collection of Silent Hill 2 and 3 will be released in late October for PS3 with new voice-acting, better graphics, and trophy support, but don’t miss out on the experience that launched Silent Hill as one of the greatest survival horror series in video games. The first Silent Hill follows Harry Mason through the foggy town in search of his daughter, Cheryl, after a car crash leaves them stranded. Monsters, eerie sounds, and a frightening Otherworld greet you as you pass from the elementary school to the hospital and other infamous locations.

Playing the original will give you a taste of the scares you can expect in the upcoming Silent Hill: Downpour, the eighth installment in the long-running series due out later this year—but nothing can adequately prepare you for the nightmare to come. And to think Silent Hill was once a sought after resort destination.

17) Tropico 3

How would you like to rule your own private paradise? The city-building simulation Tropico is entering its fourth run next month, but with sandy beaches come violent storms, and with leadership come responsibilities. Take a practice run with Tropico 3 and make mistakes without worrying about whom you offended now or what relations you just messed up. You might even learn a thing or two about politics and economics … not on purpose, of course.

Soak in the sun with our preview of Tropico 4.

16) Uncharted 2

The other relic expert (besides the freshened up Lara Croft) who’s popular these days is Nathan Drake, and he’s already finished two successful and lucrative adventures on the PS3. Among Thieves will whisk you off to exotic locations while you remain in the comfort of your living room. Explore secret ruins, go rock climbing, wrestle with yetis, and satisfy your trigger finger in explosive gunfights. Let Drake do the work and strenuous activity for you. All you need to do is press the right buttons.

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception goes on sale this November.

We brave the cold in our review.

Check back tomorrow for our continued list of Games to Play Before Summer Is Over.
