Ubisoft Reveals Exclusive Wii Mini-Game Division “Play Zone”

There have been those who said that Ubisoft isn’t showing the Wii any love, that all the good games are going to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. But Ubisoft has been listening, and they have answered with… Play Zone.

“Play Zone” is the name of Ubisoft’s new Wii exclusive division, which will focus on creating new party and mini-game titles, the first of which will be Sports Party: A collection of nine sports mini-games that will include such mainstays as basketball, horseshoes, and croquet.

Due for release in July, the title’s nine mini-games will each feature three difficulty levels, and can be played either head-to-head or cooperatively. And as any game of this type is expected to, it will make full use of the Wii’s innovative (though unique’s days may be numbered) motion controls. The collection will feature: Three basketball mini-games, volleyball, horseshoes, croquet, mini-golf, badminton, and lawn darts. Does anyone even know how to play lawn darts?

No further titles from Play Zone have been announced, though they say the games “will provide immediate entertainment and recreation thanks to original and numerous mini-games to be shared by all family members and friends.”

“With our new Play Zone party titles, the Wii gamers who like to spend time with friends and family will have fun with the Wii through innovative and involving mini-games,” said John Parkes, Ubisoft EMEA Marketing Director. “The Play Zone label will provide them with the best games to mingle and compete together in a fun and friendly atmosphere.”
