It looks like Walmart could be the breaker of of accidental news. As of right now, you can go to Walmart.com and see a listing for a game titled ICO / Shadow of the Colossus (PS3). This is totally unconfirmed, but this leads the average consumer to believe that an updated PS3 version of the two titles could be coming to the Sony console soon. April 1st soon, if Walmart.com is to be believed.
Of course, that April 1st date is cause for concern. Along with being a day often associated with pranks, it is also the date assigned to products that don’t have an official release date.
When a retailer wants to start pre-ordering a game, but they don’t know they date, they simply plug in an assumed month with a 1st release date. This gets the game in the system and allows people to start paying for the item. As you can see above, I have gone ahead and pre-ordered four copies, just in case three crap out on me.
Again, it’s worth mentioning that this is far from an official confirmation. Team Ico has expressed interest in seeing an HD remake of their Playstation 2 classics, but they are too busy making The Last Guardian brilliant to concern themselves with games they have already created. If anyone is working on the HD remake, it won’t be them.
There has certainly been enough demand for the title though, and with the Tokyo Game Show starting this week, it’s possible that an announcement could be made. I for one have my fingers crossed. I would hate to cancel four pre-orders.
