When Worlds Collide: Mario Meets Halo

When the alien Covenant invades your peaceful homeworld, who you gonna call?

Not Master Chief– he’s off taking a nap somewhere, or something.

No, when these attritional aliens land in the relatively-peaceful Mushroom Kingdom, there is only one man able to save the day… Mario.

Such is the premise of the fangame Super Mario Fusion – Mario Meets Halo, wherein the unstompable alien army forces Mario to seek out new methods of dealing with his foes– plasma grenades, plasma rifles, and maybe more, along with more traditional fare rooted in Super Mario Bros. 2 and 3. Taking out troops with turnips? You can bet the Prophets didn’t see that one coming.

And of course, you have to feel for the Koopas and Goombas that get caught in the crossfire of futuristic explosives.

With graphics taken from the Super Mario Advance versions of SMB2 and 3, and from another fangame, Halo Zero, the aesthetic blends surprisingly well, though still in a way that slightly contrasts. Sort of like an episode of Captain N.

While the game may not appeal to everyone, those with an open mind may just find something to appreciate in this experiment to find out if two great tastes will taste great together.
