I'm going to warn you right now, this article will begin and end with the Molten Corgi.
I mean, just look at it
How do you not just fall in love?
Seriously, though. Blizzard is pulling out the fireworks to help blow out the candles when World of Warcraft turns ten years old this November. Yes, as hard as it is to believe, World of Warcraft will indeed turn ten years old, having released in 2004. I first started playing in the spring of 2005 and, due to the fact that I was unable to commit large chunks of my time to raids, devoted most of my playing experience into the world of PVP. Therefore, the Tauren Mill/Southshore PVP Deathmatch is incredibly appealing to me.
While I’ve heard plenty of stories regarding the constant tug of war between the two cities, I never got to experience them first hand due to the incredibly low population of my first sever, Gnomeregan. We were lucky if we even had a Warsong Gulch queue finish within an hour, never mind gather enough players for legitimate World PVP. It will be nice to relive some of the memories myself, even if Blizzard is recreating a faux-World PVP environment.
Still, despite the fact that a true recreation is impossible, due to the fact that Southshore doesn’t exist anymore, the scenario tugs at all of the nostalgic strings. Do you know what else tugs at the nostalgic strings? The 40-man Molten Core Looking For Raid scenario.
There’s absolutely no way they could recreate the pure chaos that is a 40 man raid. Sure, the LFR tool has been bashed for being populated with mindless players who only care about bursting enemies and gathering loot, but…
Wait a second.
That’s all I can remember people talking about when 40 man raids were a thing. Players doing their own things, AFKing during fights. Granted, not every raid was like this, but I can see their points: it’s hard to reign in 40 players at once.
Personally, I’d love it if Blizzard can find a way to recreate my Molten Core experience by implementing technology that downgrades my PC hardware so that I can re-experience Molten Core at 5 FPS.
The bottom line here, though, is that Blizzard has me wanting to resubscribe for a reason that isn’t their upcoming Warlords of Draenor expansion. Sure, it’ll be nice to revisit Warcraft lore, but man, the memories of my World of Warcraft youth. I can never flat out relive playing against the same people over and over again in battlegrounds, but I can go into the Tauren Mill/Southshore Deathmatch thinking “hey, I know these people. I’ve seen them around when I’m playing.”
Plus I really, really want that Molten Corgi. I’m just going to resubscribe for the Corgi alone.
Don’t judge me. You don’t know me.
