Sony's inaugural "Vote to Play" kicks off today, giving PlayStation Plus subscribers the chance to vote on one of the free PS4 games for next month. For the first round (September 2015), Vote to Play has Armello, a video game inspired by tabletop games; Zombie Vikings, a 2D multiplayer brawler; and Grow Home, a whimiscal platformer.
The decision is easy, folks.
Armello is honestly the easiest choice to make here, as long as you like a good dose of tabletop and card game influences in your video games. It also seems like the deepest game out of the bunch. Hear me out.
The game is set up as a dark fairy tale, where players will have to align themselves with one of four animal clans, each possessing their own strengths and weaknesses. Do you then progress by slaying the mad king's guards, complete heroid deeds and gain prestige? Or do you perhaps take a more passive route and try to collect magical spirit stones and cure the mad king of his insanity.
Of course the game has deep tactical gameplay depending on the animal faction you choose to play as, which can quickly turn the tide against other players, who are also vying for prestige. Zosha the Rat has an ability that allows her to go into stealth every sunset, while Barnaby the Rabbit has the toolset fit for any occasion, meaning he's easily adaptable for many different strategies.
If you're a fan of tabletop games with a tactical card game mechanic, that also happen to look gorgeous, definitely cast your vote for Armello!
