Talking to Game Informer, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has revealed what the mysterious flap on the front of the Nintendo Wii covers. According to him, it covers an SD card slot, which gives Wii owners more media storage space. Meanwhile, Fils-Aime also confirmed that the flap on the top of Wii covers GameCube controller ports.
More interesting, Fils-Aime hinted that Wii might utilize other storage mediums. When asked if SD cards are the main storage medium for the system, he responded with an intriguing “It will be one of the memory mediums, and it’s the only one that we’ve announced.â€
Interestingly enough, Nintendo of Japan president Satoru Iwata remarked in March 2005 that “practically any storage method can be used” with Wii. Unfortunately, both Nintendo and Iwata haven’t made reference to this statement since then. That said, many external hard drives use an USB connection, which the Wii supports, so using such devices with the console might not be out of the question.
