Xbox One game releases for September 2014

September marks the release of one of the biggest games of 2014 — Destiny. But there are a ton of other games due out this month, including a few exclusives for Xbox One (I know, right!?). Leading the way is obviously Forza Horizon 2, but there are a few other doozies coming as well.

Below is a look at the major Xbox One titles releasing in September 2014.

Warframe – September 2, 2014

Previously available on PC, and then again on consoles with the PS4 at launch, Warframe is finally coming to Xbox One. Like its previous iterations, it'll be free to play with Xbox LIVE Gold. What's more, you'll be able to utilize second screen functionality through SmartGlass and the Warframe Nexus App to get real-time game information and stats, Mods, and more to help you strategize your game play.

Dance Central Spotlight – September 2, 2014

This one requires Kinect, so if you're one of those who waited until the Kinect-less Xbox One, you might as well move on. Or pay $150 for the Kinect standalone peripheral. But, if you do happen to be one of the original Xbox One owners, then you can enjoy Dance Central Sportlight, the latest entry in Harmonix's motion-controlled dance franchise. The game will be available digitally through the Xbox Games store and will come with 10 songs for $9.99. However, you can expand upon your catalog by purchasing additional songs; more than 50 will be available at launch, with more to come.

Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate – September 2, 2014

Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate features145 playable characters in a new storyline that "brings the heroes together again after the death of the Demon Snake as they are called upon by a mysterious stone to return to the chaotic din of battle."

Destiny – September 9, 2014

The is the big one. The game you've all been waiting for. Destiny is Bungie's latest blockbuster and is easily one the most anticipated games of this year. You've played the beta, pre-ordered the game, and now you can finally play it. For years to come.

NHL 15 – September 9, 2014

NHL 15 is said to have been built to harness the power of next-gen consoles. As such, the game features a new level of player likeness, intelligence and emotion, the most diverse and animated crowd of any sports game and an added level of control using the Superstar Skill Stick. A demo for the game is currently available now.

Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes – 2.0 Edition – September 23, 2014

Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes – 2.0 Edition is a very much improved Disney Infinity. The overall concept and gameplay remains the same — bringing together characters from different Disney universes, but there's tons of exciting changes including: an improved Toy Box with preset templates, NPC workers that help build your world while you play in it, and interiors; new playsets including Marvel and Guardians of the Galaxy; and all-new characters including Iron Man, Thor, Spider-Man, Star-Lord, Tinker Bell, Merida, Maleficent, and many more.

FIFA 15 – September 23, 2014

FIFA 15 makes great strides in the emotional intelligence of players, presenation of the overall match, and control over your player. There's also been improvements made to the game's visuals.

Forza Horizon 2 – September 30, 2014

If you're a racing fan and an Xbox owner, then this is the racing game for you to get. Set in a wide-open world with dramatic weather and day to night cycles, Forza Horizon 2 will continue to improve upon an already stellar racing franchise. It helps that there are over 200 cars available in the game for your enjoyment. If you're on the fence about it, a demo will be available for Xbox One on September 30.

Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor – September 30, 2014

Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor may be set in J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy universe of Middle-earth, but this isn't The Lord of the Rings story you're probably used to. Instead, this third-person action-adventure centers on Talion, a valiant ranger whose family is slain right in front of him the night Sauron and his army return to Mordor, moments before his own life is taken. Talian, resurrected by a Spirit of vengeance and empowered with Wraith abilities, ventures into Mordor on a quest to destroy those who wronged him. Along the way, he'll learn the truth of the Spirit that compels him.

Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments – September 30, 2014

As one would expect from a game of this title, Sherlock Holmes: Crime & Punishments is a detective game that focuses heavily on investigation, with an emphasis on narration. There's lots of exploration and clue collecting, speaking to witnesses and suspects, and forming your own deductions and conclusions.

So, I think it's safe to call this the start of the "holiday season" for gamers. And it's only going to get busier from here. That's why I made a guide for those of you on a budget. Check out September's "must buy" games for Xbox One.
