E3 2012: Spec Ops: The Line preview

Spec Ops: The Line was the first game I actually got to play the demo for at E3:2012.  This third person shooter stood out to me due to the chaotic nature of the environment in which you play in.  While there is cover to take, cover to vault over, running, melee attacks, the side arm and primary weapon options, it is truly the sand that makes this game stand out.

I recall a moment in the demo, after I was pretty comfortable with the controls, that I was having a fire fight on a barge (in the middle of the desert) when a sandstorm rolled in.  If you are thinking that all parties involved in the fire fight run and take cover – boy are you wrong.  Aiming and shooting while getting sand blown in your face is an experience like none I’ve had before.  I felt my heart pumping and the adrenaline kicking in.

I was one of the people who actually completed the demo so I felt like I got a good feel of what to expect.  Watch the kiddies around this game because the character I was playing swore about every time he was shot (for damn good reason).  The action was intense and the strength of the environment really sucks you into the world quickly; at time literally.

My only real complaint is that familiar ‘forced to walk’ as plot conversation occurs.  This isn’t even necessarily a bad thing, it’s just a pet peeve of mine.  After so much action I always feel this takes the momentum away; I understand it’s probably an alternative to a loading screen.  Other than that, Spec Ops: The Line delivers and third person shooter lovers should keep their eye on it.
