Marvel VS. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes – 360 – Preview

E3 2009 Preview

No fighting game developer knows nostalgia like Capcom. First,
the publisher and developer excited the world with an online and high-def
version of Street Fighter II. One year later, Capcom blew our minds with the
long-awaited Street Fighter IV, a sequel that dug deep into its own roots to
produce an experience that was surprisingly fresh. Now, Capcom has yet another
reason to intrigue fighting game enthusiasts: a downloadable version of Marvel
vs. Capcom 2 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Much like Street Fighter II HD, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is a port of a classic
game. The graphics have been tweaked to shine on (and fit the aspect ratio of)
widescreen televisions. For the most part, however, this is the same game you’ve
played on Dreamcast, Xbox or PlayStation 2. So why invest in another version?
Online play, of course. The graphics are another reason. Using the two sprite
filter options, players can smooth out the picture. Or you can choose to play
with the classic pixelated appearance, if you prefer. Also, all of Marvel vs.
Capcom 2’s modes and characters will be unlocked from the start, preventing
players from having to go in and unearth these goods a second time. It also
ensures that newbies will get to experience them without any of the work.

Set for release later this summer, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 should also appeal to
those who missed the game the first time around, and especially to those who
played it and loved it but failed to pick up a home version.
