Spy Fiction – PS2 – Preview

Spy
Fiction follows two Phantom Strike Force agents, Billy Bishop and Sheila
Crawford, as they are sent in to stop Enigma from unleashing a deadly virus.

Spy Fiction focuses
mainly on espionage, but from more of an action angle. You don’t have to sneak
around all the time, and there are also twists to sneaking around. Sneaking in
Spy Fiction isn’t about hiding in the shadows, but utilizing your gadgets for
the best situations.

Gadgets you will have
access to in Spy Fiction include Spider Clips that allow you to climb walls and
walk along ceilings, stealth camo that turns you invisible if standing still, or
the best disguise yet – being able to steal identities. You will be able to
point a device at a guard or enemy of some sort and completely assume their
identity. Once undercover, you must not act suspicious or enemies will check
you. You get a limited number of checks with each disguise, and after you reach
that limit, that disguise won’t work anymore.

Gadgets won’t be your
only hardware – there will be plenty of weapons to play with. The action can
even be played out in third- or first-person view.

Story is another big
thing in Spy Fiction and major story sequences will be played out in
high-quality cut-scenes. Depending on which character you pick you will see
differences in the story, multiple endings, and even unlockable skins. Overall
it’s the same for each character, but to see every last bit you’ll need to play
through as both. Each character has their own strengths and weaknesses, giving
players a choice in terms of the way they like to play.

The game won’t be all
about the stealth and action, there will be mini games scattered throughout the
adventure. The one I witnessed was a sky diving game. As the character dives
towards their target, you must maneuver them through floating mines to safely
make it to your target. There will be more games like this in the final version.

Spy Fiction looks like an
interesting title, allowing for lots of different ways to progress through
levels and dispatch of enemies. Spy Fiction is slated for a September release.
