Fish On! – MB – Review

Fish On! is a “fishing” game from
SkyZone Mobile. However, the game is more about being an action-puzzler than an
actual fishing simulator. Starting out, you’ll simply be putting your hook in
the water in order to hit bubbles and catch fish. Eventually, you’ll even get
into some off the wall situations with your maritime superhero avatar, Sven.
Even during the action sequences, the game is not complicated to play
whatsoever, but can get pretty challenging if you’re a casual gamer.

At first, the gameplay is simple,
but addictive. You have your hook in the water, and you must hold down the 5 key
to pull the hook up, or let it go to drop the hook. As the screen scrolls
horizontally, you must guide your hook up and down in order to hit the
various-sized bubbles that scroll across the screen in order to keep your energy
bar from completely running out. As you hit these bubbles, you’ll attract the
attention of fish that you can then catch by pressing the right button on the
phone. However, the trick is to hold out hitting the button until the fish get
bigger, giving you a better score.

Next comes some more diverse
moments, beginning with the first boss fight, which has you playing a rhythm
game of sorts with the directional pad in order to attack and defend against a
gigantic catfish. Once again, this mode is very easy to play, but as the arrows
go faster on the screen, it can get a little tough. Eventually, you’ll get into
even more action oriented game modes that will have you swimming along with a
harpoon gun.

The gameplay in Fish On! is very
easy to grasp, but it can be tough at times, especially in the later stages. The
variety in the Story Mode is pretty impressive and should hold your attention.

Another addition is the Trophy Room,
which shows you your best catches from each size requirement, and a boss mode
that lets you fight the boss battle.

Graphically, the game’s sprites have
a clean look to them, but won’t dazzle you by any means. Still, the cartoony
look works well for the game’s theme overall. The sound effects are also pretty
good, with the music being a nice fit for the game’s lighthearted mood.

Fish On! is a simple, but fun action
title that should appeal to casual gamers looking to burn some time on their
cell phones.
