The following excerpts were found from a worn and battered journey, discovered in a deep cavern during an excavation dig.
Log 1:
It’s a lovely summer day. The sun is clear, the birds are singing, and the grass is inviting me out for a stroll. It’d be a shame to waste such a lovely opportunity to explore. Sure, I may be just a simple boar, but that doesn’t mean I’m not curious.
Log 2:
I may be a bit too curious.
Somehow, I stumbled upon something I shouldn’t have: a vault. An empty vault, but that hasn’t stopped this big, rich looking fellow from accusing me of stealing everything. As punishment, I’m forced to explore his caverns for gems. That doesn’t sound terribly bad; I really wanted to go explore. I guess I’ll just have to suffice for dark caverns instead of blue skies.
Log 3:
Something is wrong, very wrong. There’s an ominous feeling to these caves. I get a feeling of sadness and misery through the air, despite the somewhat naive outlook of the other bores I’ve discovered. I can’t help but wonder if this is an actual work crew or a prison. Nevertheless, I must go on. I must pay off the debt that I didn’t incur.
Log 4:
I have found dozens of gem, but it certainly wasn’t due to a lack of effort. These caverns are more of a labyrinth. This exploration is more of a chore. My snout is incredibly sore from the constant digging and pushing objects around. I fear my legs may soon give out to exhaustion. And yet, I still find the energy to move on. The sense of accomplishment I gain from completing these puzzles is almost enough motivation to keep going at it.
Still, I wonder what the point of all this is. Are these gems even real? Is that rich looking fellow watching me from some closed-circuit feed? Am I just a puppet for some reality television series? My motivation is slowly draining, partially due to frustration. The constant need to stay on my toes can be exhaustion, especially considering the fact that, at times, I can’t stop exploring.
Log 5:
I’ve completely lost track of time.
Scratch that; I’m flat out lost. These caverns are massive. It’s as if there’s some sort of secret ancient race of mythical beings that exist down here. We’ve probably been building on top of lost civilizations.
I’m scared.
I’m hungry.
I’m lonely.
I’m tired.
I should have stayed in bed. Instead, I’m now trapped in these hellish caves, hanging on to a small sense of joy that’s clouded by frustration and anguish.
Final Log:
I should have stayed in bed. Don't me wrong, in a way I'm glad I got to experience what I've seen, but ultimately the adventure is not worth it. The end is too far away. I'm taunted by the images of gems I've already collected constantly reappearing when I pass by their locations. These caverns are simply gigantic and confusing.
What started out as an enjoyable experience has slowly but surely turned into a tiring and cumbersome adventure. Maybe someone else, another bore with more patience and determination, could succeed where I have failed. Instead, I will resign to curling up in this corner and getting some sleep.
