Picture that typical, hardcore PC gamer. You know the one — with peripherals that looks likes Shredder’s armor in the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. There’s sharp angles, and it’s shiny, and you could envision a warrior in a fantasy game using it. Well, the Gamdias Eros V2 Surround Sound Gaming Headset shouldn’t be wielded by warriors, but for PC and PS4 gamers, it gets the job done.
The first thing that you should know is that the Eros V2 will not break the bank. You are getting a pretty good surround sound headset for anywhere from $45 to $75. If you’re looking for a good surround sound headset on a budget, this has everything you’ll need with a few bells and whistles. You’re getting 7.1 surround sound with 50mm gaming-class drivers. You can use it with your PlayStation 4 if you just plug the 3.5mm directly into the controller, or you can install the software on your PC and open up the playbook for the Eros V2. Plug the 3.5mm into the smart in-line remote, plug that into a USB slot, and then you can control volume easily. On the PS4, though, you don’t have that option.
The sound is pretty good. There’s not enough bass for my liking, but the mids and highs are pleasant on the ears. I used it primarily while playing Destiny and League of Legends. I wanted a bit more oomph, but it’s hard to complain when you don’t even feel like you’re wearing a headset. It’s that light. I’m used to a big, leather headband that padded, and you can feel the weight to them. That’s not the case with the Eros V2. There’s suspension cables with a featherweight leather headband. It will be comfortable on any size head — even my egg-shaped one. I have my wife try on all of my headsets that I review, and she said this was one of the more comfortable ones. The comfy earcups help, as well.
The mic won’t blow you or your friends away, but it’s suitable for playing games and communicating while you do so. I wouldn’t voice over a video or expect the highest quality streamer experience out of it, but it does what it’s intended to do. And you can adjust it and its metal coil. The headset cable is also braided, which I personally enjoy.
The only other little complaint I have is that the headset feels kind of flimsy. I’m used to a lot more, not necessarily heft, but sturdiness on the headsets I use. I have two kids that seem set on destroying my house, so I have to take off headsets in a hurry before they light the curtains on fire. I feel like if I rip these off in a hurry, they might not make it. I have, and they did, but they don’t feel like they would. It’s very misleading.
The overall package for the price makes this a good headset choice for someone that doesn’t want to spend $100+ on their audio experience. It’s comfortable and handles game audio really well.
