In Godzilla: Monster Mayhem from ProGames Network, you play as the famous green
monster as you smash your way through a variety of different environments.
You’ll crash your way through tanks and buildings, leading your way up to
Godzilla’s arch-nemeses from his established film series. While the game does a
nice job of representing Godzilla on the mobile platform, there are some
gameplay issues that keep the game from being wholeheartedly recommended.
While the game is in 2D, Godzilla controls on a pseudo-3D plane. The 2 and 8
buttons move you up and down the screen, while the 4 and 6 buttons will move you
left and right, respectively. 1 and 7 will also tilt your head up or down,
allowing you to aim your fireballs (which you can shoot using the 5 key), and 3
and 9 will punch and kick, while 0 will unleash a ground-shaking stomp. Needless
to say, Godzilla: Monster Mayhem does a pretty good job of using all of the keys
on a mobile phone.
The game gives you four different areas to fight: The City, Nuclear Facility,
Refinery and Military. You must defeat them in order to unlock them, as the
later three will be locked until you defeat the enemies in the previous one.
Each area allows you to destroy the buildings within, giving you hidden
power-ups inside. Additionally, if you use your fireball to destroy them, you’ll
gain some health back. Cars and vehicles can be destroyed by simply walking on
them, while buildings might take away some health if you try to walk through
them.
Getting to the end of each level entails duking it out with a monster from the
Godzilla franchise. Some pretty big names, like Mothra and King Gidorah show up
to the mix, so fans of the green monster will get a kick out of taking them on.
While it is pretty cool that Monster Mayhem allows you to play as Godzilla and
take on other famous monsters, the gameplay is a little tough to stick with.
Even though the game takes you through a variety of levels, they all pretty much
feel the same until you get to the boss. Additionally, Godzilla handles a bit
cumbersomely, as you can’t move in diagonal directions, and moving up and down
the screen is a bit of a pain. Also, when you’re getting beat up by enemies,
having to adjust your head to aim fireballs can be annoying.
Graphically, the game looks pretty good for a Java-based game. The environments
are pretty detailed and Godzilla looks pretty big and is pretty well animated.
The game’s music is pretty good, but doesn’t really bring much to the gameplay.
Fundamentally, Godzilla: Monster Mayhem is a good way to play as the celluloid
beast on a cellular, but the cumbersome controls and repetitive stages leave a
bit to be desired.

Gameplay: 6.0
While it is pretty fun to tear through the game’s environments and take on
Godzilla’s well-known cadre of monsters, the controls can be pretty cumbersome
and the levels border of repetitive.
Graphics: 7.5
The graphics in the game are pretty good, as Godzilla is well animated and looks
pretty big and the environments are well-detailed.
Sound: 6.0
The game’s music doesn’t really add much to the game.
Difficulty: Medium
Concept: 6.5
The game does a fine job of representing Godzilla and his opponents, but the
gameplay leaves a bit to be desired.
Overall: 6.5
While it is pretty cool to play as Godzilla and take on enemies like Mothra, the
controls feel cumbersome and slow, and the environments are pretty repetitive.
