Reel Fishing: Angler’s Dream – WII – Review

Reel Fishing:
Angler’s Dream is a game for the Nintendo Wii where you are taken into a world
that most fisherman would dream of. You live in a house by the lake and you eat,
sleep and fish. In Reel Fishing, as you go through the game you unlock different
lakes, streams and oceans along with different ways to fish. You can do
everything from lure fishing to fly fishing to deep sea fishing. Throughout your
journey, you will fish a particular way in a particular spot. These places you
fish will each have certain types of fish to catch including legendary fish
which are even more rare to find and even harder to bring in.

Reel Fishing is
really very inconsistent with providing a true up-to-date fishing experience.
Limiting you to one fishing spot every place you go and a strange control scheme
are among the many features that Reel Fishing: Angler’s Dream missed on. Reel
Fishing limits you to the one spot it takes you at every body of water.
Although, this particular spot does contain all of the fish you need to catch,
it doesn’t satisfy the adventure of having an entire body of water to explore
and fish. This really took away from the game and made it very boring at times.
Players will want to explore and throw their casts to different spots, but Reel
Fishing just doesn’t offer anything close to that experience. The strange
control scheme will take a minute to get down completely. Being a fishing game
on Wii, the motion controls and button scheme could have definitely been
utilized in a better manner for this title. Although you will get used to the
controls, many players will find it very strange to cast at first.

Not everything
is all downhill for the new fishing game though, there were some good things
about Reel Fishing. Most of the time you will be able to have a chance at
catching a fish, and it is fun when it works. There are some glitches to the
fishing gameplay, but when it works, players will enjoy fighting with the fish
with the ultimate victory of putting them in the live well. Some of the fish are
very difficult to reel in, and it is a point when it is actually fun that it is
difficult. It makes it realistic and you might even think you are actually out
on your favorite lake fighting a big one.

Overall, Reel
Fishing: Angler’s Dream does have a lot of problems throughout the entire game.
Glitches in gameplay and a strange control scheme bring the game down, but if
you are looking for a quick fishing fix at a cheap price, you may want to at
least take a look at Reel Fishing: Angler’s Dream.

Gameplay: 6.0

Catching the fish was really the only satisfaction to the
gameplay. Very inconsistent camera angles and glitches will cause a lot of
gamers to get frustrated with this aspect of the game.

Graphics: 7.0

The graphics did seem to show a beautiful environment any place
you seemed to visit, but underwater camera angles weren’t as beautiful.

Sound: 5.5

Soothing music filled the air, but it was mostly a couple of
songs that were just fill music.

Difficulty: Easy/Medium

Concept: 4.0

Nothing much was really brought to the table in this Reel Fishing
title. If anything, some standard features were missing from the game.

Multiplayer: 5.0
With only a versus mode, multiplayer is almost
nonexistent on this title.

Overall: 5.5

This fishing title lacks a lot that fishing gamers would like in
a perfect game. However, if you haven’t tried fishing on the Wii yet and you are
looking to do it cheap, this may be the cheapest way to find out what it is
like.
