With the seemingly never ending games and apps being added into the App store daily, it’s hard to keep track of the games actually worth playing. Luckily for you, Fantasy Conflict is one of those games.
Strategy games on a smaller screen can be overwhelming unless they have a simple interface. Fortunately, a simple interface is Fantasy Conflict’s greatest strength as you easily tap your squad around the medieval board. The goal is to take over the enemy bases by sending your soldiers at them. For example, if you have 12 soldiers and they have 8, you take over their base. To send soldiers at the enemy, simply tap the base you want to send your soldiers from once for half of the base, or twice to send your entire fleet. After I got familiar with the game, I was sending soldiers to bases with ease and conquering the enemies.
The game gets even more interesting when magic is involved for both you and your opponent. In one of the levels, the enemy kept throwing fire spells at my main base burning my soldiers alive and killing most of them. There are also giant cannons that you can acquire. The cannons let me kill most of the enemy fleet so a ground takeover was really simple. Don’t let the cannons and magic fool you; this game is not as easy as it sounds. Later on in more advanced areas, the action picks up and gets real intense.
Another useful skill is tapping on enemy soldiers when you are both going towards the same tower. This makes the ground soldiers shoot bow and arrows at the enemies, weakening them before they attempt the takeover. I didn’t realize how effective this was until the computer started annihilating my ground troops to the point that I couldn’t take over their towers and had to send even more troops to their death.
The combination of a great control interface, fun ground combat, and magic makes this game standout against other strategy games for the iPad and iPhone. It doesn’t hurt that it’s a lot of fun as well, with intuitive RTS gameplay and a well implemented magic feature. This game is well worth the $2 asking price.
