Published by Eidos, Sola Rola is a quirky action-puzzler that has a few elements
similar to the popular PSP game, LocoRoco. The game requires you to roll and
bounce your way through a variety of stages of increasing difficulty. While this
sounds simple enough, the stages do get fairly tough as well as pretty addicting
as you go. Sola Rola is a fun and engaging mobile game with some elements that
separate it from a good number of mobile puzzle games out there, and should be
worth the time for both casual gamers and hardcore puzzle fans.
Sola Rola puts you in control of one of two alien brothers, Wiz and Waz, as they
embark on a journey to save the galaxy from Ping the Unmerciless, a generally
nasty guy. Their quest will take them through 25 stages that will require them
to take advantage of physics by rolling and bouncing their way through them to
take on the evil Ping.
The controls are dirt simple, requiring little more than using the keypad to
move left, right and jump with the 5 key. Eventually, the levels will get a
little more difficult and increase in complexity, but never to the point where
they would be overwhelming to even the most casual mobile gamers.
Graphically, the game isn’t the most impressive looking mobile game around, but
sports a pretty clean and light-hearted look. The character models and
environments are bright and colorful, composed of 2D sprites. The physics are
also pretty well done for a mobile title, helping make the game a fun and unique
experience. The music is also pretty well done, keeping with the game’s
atmosphere and sense of humor, and the sound effects sound pretty decent as
well.
Sola Rola isn’t very complex, but is still a blast to play. The easy to master
controls won’t overwhelm anybody, and the gameplay can be wildly addictive and
fun. Mobile gamers looking for a good action-puzzler would do well to give this
one a look.
