Betting, bingo,
blackjack. Imagine…you are sitting in front of your tuxedo-wearing dealer
holding your cards with shows, extravagant statues and bright lights all around
you. Yes, you are partying in Sin City right from the couch in your own living
room.
Vegas Party for
the Nintendo Wii puts you right in the center of the Vegas world. It is time to
win some money and live your dreams – even if it is strictly virtual. Vegas
Party offers your favorite Vegas games including blackjack, texas hold ’em,
roulette and much more. Although it doesn’t have a huge amount of content, it
does offer about 15 different mini-games you would see in the casinos in Las
Vegas.
Vegas Party
offers three game modes, which are quick play, the strip and competition. The
Strip throws you on the Las Vegas strip full of casinos, games and lots of
money. The strip is actually a game board where you face other players to be the
first to the end of the course and also the player to win the most money. It
plays like a board game where you roll the dice and you move up the game board
spaces. The most important spaces on the game board are building spaces that
then take you inside a casino where you will play one of the 15 mini-games
trying to get ahead in the money race. It is a very straightforward board game
that might remind you of a Mario Party title without the fun.
On the other
hand, if you are looking for a little competition but don’t want to play on a
game board, then you would choose competition. Competition lets you play through
all the Vegas mini-games and whoever has the most money at the end wins the
competition. Lastly, quick play allows you to choose any mini-game you like and
play it as much as you want.
Unfortunately, a
lot of things went wrong with this title. Vegas Party is lacking in overall
content. There are 15 Vegas mini-games you can play and they do include Vegas
favorites, but at the same time you can get through them very quickly. This
isn’t the only bad aspect of Vegas Party either. The graphics are extremely
blurry and the gameplay, especially on the strip, gets very boring and feels
like a chore at times.
Vegas Party
isn’t that much fun and doesn’t really have anything going for it. The first
play-through of the mini-games is fun, but after that it really loses its appeal
quickly.
Overall, the
party in Vegas wasn’t as good as we had hoped. It is a below-average game that
needs much more content for it to even be considered an average game for the
Nintendo Wii. It lacks graphical appeal and the board game set-up for the main
mode doesn’t do the genre any justice and will have even the strongest Vegas
game buffs just bored.
Gameplay: 3.5
The 15
mini-games that support the entire game are good the first time you play them,
but will get more taxing as you continue to play them over and over.
Graphics: 4.0
Although you don’t have to have great graphics for a game to be good, it seems
like making a good visually beautiful Vegas could have definitely helped this
title.
Sound: 5.0
Mostly fill music
and audio filled the casinos, but it is nothing to get excited about.
Difficulty: Easy
Concept: 4.0
The
concept of Vegas Party has been done many times before especially on the Wii.
Mini-game titles are found commonly and this one does nothing special to make it
above the rest.
Multiplayer: 6.0
You can
play with up to four players on each of the modes making the game a little more
competitive. Who doesn’t want to kick their friends’ butts in texas hold ’em?
Overall: 4.5
Even for big-time Vegas game fans, this game will be overlooked because
there are a lot more quality mini-game titles out there for the Nintendo Wii.
